Unique, au calme, avec une vue imprenable. Propriété privée, vous vous sentirez comme si vous avez remonté dans le 18ème siècle tout en profitant des commodités modernes. Notre désir est pour vous d'avoir exactement les vacances que vous voulez!
Whether you rent a room or the whole house, at Vistalinda Plantation, Faja dos Vimes, Sao Jorge Island, Azores, you will be impressed with the 180 degree and spectacular view of the town, ocean and the island of Pico across the water. The drive up a narrow and steeper incline gives you the feel for the 18th century farm lots, with stone walls on both sides of the terrain. When you arrive at Vistalinda, you will find your accomodations are very modern on the insides of the buildings and comfortable. It gives you the feel for Sao Jorges past, while providing modern indoor conveniences.
Vistalindas' location to 3 major trails on Sao Jorge Island make it even more appealing. This charming 2 bedroom 18th century rustic remodel, sits at about 200 ft. above sea level on a plateau overlooking the town of Faja dos Vimes. Photographs on a sunny day are spectacular.
The three trails that begin at Faja dos Vimes, one goes through Fragueira to our west and ends up in Portal. The second trail begins at Faja dos Vimes heading east, through Faja dos Bodes, Lorais area and on to Faja Sao Joao. This is one of the more popular treks on the island. The third is a more steep ascent from Faja dos Vimes up the side of the mountain to the top where you can cross over and head towards Faja de Santo Cristo (Caldeira) and then out through Faja dos Cubres. Other trails and roads atop the hills of Sao Jorge can take you throughout the island. If you want shorter hikes, hiking to Frageira and back takes about an hour, hiking to Faja dos Bodes and back 40 minutes to an hour, all depending on how often you stop for photographs etc. There are small walks around the whole town of Faja that we can help point out.
At night the twinkling of the lights from the town below, as well as the lights from Pico are quite lovely sights to see as you refresh yourself with a drink or dinner on the lovely outdoors patio picnic bar. It is a wonderful place to sit, think, write or just enjoy a cool breeze.
There are several 18th century rock barns and a second house (18th century) on the premises, that are currently not being used for more than storage. There is also a waterfall on the premisis with water cave (running waterfall depends on weather) and much much more to explore.
About the town:
Faja dos Vimes is a quaint little waters-edge farming and vacation community, featuring large polished rock beaches, small dock water entry (for boaters, swimmers, snorkelers, spearfishers and kayakers). Some equipment rental ie, kayak, body boards, mask snorkels and fins are available but as is typical with many areas on island you have to know who to contact to get the vacation experience you prefer so, let us know so we can help ahead of your visit with whatever your needs.
The local Casa de Artesanato (typically open every day except Sunday), makes rugs, along with cotton or wool hand loomed bedspreads, pillow cases and more, typical of the area. The Cafe/Bar features Local Coffee, alcoholic beverages and non-alcoholic beverages, Sandwiches and other snacks.
The walking trails of the area are phenomenal, providing excellent opportunities for communing with nature.
Neighboring Faja dos Bodes, is an easy walk from Faja dos Vimes.
It is highly recommended (regardless of where you stay) on Sao Jorge Island, that you discuss vehicle rental with your hosts no matter where you stay on Sao Jorge before booking.
There are small grocery stores throughout the island however, finding one if you are not accustomed to their location can be challenging at times. The grocery store in Velas and in Calheta has a wide selection of food to choose from and, there's no reason NOT to eat well while on vacation here, if renting a house ; )
It is also recommended when in traveling in the rustic rural areas that you have a litre bottle of water with you. We recommend either bottled or boiled water in general when on all the islands, as all stomachs are a bit different.
We should add that we have excellent tasting spring water BUT, we still boil our water for drinking because the island is sub tropical and agricultural in nature, and, we do not want our guests to take unnecessary chances. We also keep canisters of boiled water in the refrigerator for your convenience.
If you want to do “driving tours” of the island, let us know your language preferences, and we may be able to assist you in finding a touring or taxi provider in one of your preferred languages.
Some guests will only want to rent a room, while another guest will want to renting the full house so, the prices indicated are "whole house" prices, the individal room rates less of course. The descriptions will be very clear in our communication as to what you are renting.
It should be noted that the terrain and properties in the Azores are multiple levels and are up and down... One should understand that good walking shoes or hiking boots are advised during your stay.
You are renting under the understanding that you do so at your own risk and liability if you fall and get hurt on the property.
We are non intrusive as several guests have pointed out, however, we want to be sure you have all the help and advise you require during your stay.
We do try to learn as much about your vacation/holiday likes and dislikes as we can in order to make your stay more comfortable.
For example, we will help advise you regarding hikes/walking trails, advise you on best weather conditions, advise you on best start and stop points etc. (if asked). Advise you on the best "must sees" of the island etc.
Again, we desire to be helpful not intrusive. Once we have established that you are comfortable in our environment you will be left to your devices unless you seek us for information. If we see you on the grounds we may inquire as to how your day went or if you need anything.
If we see you on the grounds, of course we will greet you to see if we can offer any advice.
We are always available by sms text so that if pick up is desired for hiking you can take as long as you like and then text us when you are ready. If you are from Europe, texting is simple. If from another country, if you have an unlocked telephone you can get an sms card to fit into your phone for 20 euro that can last your whole trip and then some. We recommend if you are hiking to do this so you can be in touch with someone just in case of injury.
There is no easy way to give directions to this place (although once you know where it is it's convenient and easy to get to). You are better off having the owner pick you up at the airport or port, even if you are renting a car. (SENSITIVE CONTENTS HIDDEN) earth does not cover our remote area adequately as of yet, despite requests.
As with most all Azorean properties, we recommend comfortable and safe walking shoes. The Azorean terrain is anywhere from flat to steepish gradients. This lodging contain stairs or various levels of terrain, and, the owner does not take responsibility for any falls on or off the premises. They will of course help you get medical attention however, medical attention in the Azores can mean stabilization of a condition on a current island, until you fly to another island for care. We haven't ever had anyone fall but we do want to explain that one needs to dress and wear shoes that are appropriate for the environment to lessen the likely hood.
Pets must stay outside, no smoking in house. 5th & 6th person gets a futon 5 euro per day more past 4 people.
