The 2-bedroom, 1400 sq.ft. log home features beautiful real round log exterior walls, cedar and pine ceilings, hardwood floors, large log beams, a huge 12'x24' ft exterior deck overlooking the Ausable River, and master bedroom balcony over cedar logs with mt views.
The first floor of the house follows an open floor plan concept with kitchen, dining, and living rooms, plus a full bath and laundry room and bedroom with queen bed. Enjoy the cozy gas fireplace with real flames, while looking out the window toward the Wilmington Range. Radiant in-floor heating throughout the house also provides warmth and coziness, and in the hotter summer months, the natural thermal properties of logs keep the house cool, along with french bi-fold doors opening onto the deck for fresh air. The kitchen is fully equipped for you to make lovely meals if you so wish, with brand new stainless-steel appliances. Upstairs is the master suite area including loft and bath. The bedroom featuring a walkout balcony accessed via french doors, and mountain views from the queen size bed. The upstairs bathroom is entirely of slate tile and red cedar, with a large jacuzzi hot-tub, glass shower, and dual flush European style toilet. There is a large loft area, which can enjoyed as a lounging area for the master suite, or desk working area, or kids sleeping area with a comfy new futon that can lay out flat for children.
Exterior of the house features a huge deck, with Adirondack cedar chairs, overlooking the Ausable River, A BBQ grill for your use, kayaks for guests use on nearby ponds, and a firepit with plenty of Free Firewood to burn! (You must read and agree to the house rules regarding water and fire safety if using these amenities.) (Always wear life jackets when using boats, and when making campfires always keep your fire under control, not too big, and never leave unattended)
Just built in the fall of 2013, this home was lovingly built by life-long Adirondack resident and owner Johnathan Esper, with meticulous attention to log design born from the owner's fond memories of growing up in a log home. The log house is built overlooking the Ausable River, set amid some towering white pines on the steep river bank, set well back from the road frontage.
This charming log chalet-style home is the perfect size for a week or weekend getaway to the Adirondack Mountains, and you'll feel you're in the Adirondacks whether at this home, or out enjoying the Adirondack region. The world class town of Lake Placid is just 15 minutes away, with fine dining and shopping, and it's the heart of the Adirondack High Peaks with the best access for hiking. Keene Valley, a hiker's destination, is also just 15 minutes away. And of course, Whiteface Mt ski area is just up the road 5 minutes away. The Ausable River is world famous for its fly fishing, and you can even enjoy your private fishing area on the bank in front of your vacation home. Wilmington is really located in a great area of the Adirondacks - it's the ski and mountain biking capital of the Adirondacks, and 15 minutes away from the best hiking in New York State.
Guests will have the whole private home to themselves and will arrive and depart on their own, likely without meeting anyone their entire time. No one will be there to personally welcome guests. A key code will be given prior to arrival.
Arrival and departure times are stict, with no exceptions!
The house rules must be read and agreed to. These rules include things like no smoking in the house, no shoes in the house, and strict arrival and departure times which are strictly enforced.
- House Rules and Policies: (failure to abide by house policies may incur charges or penalty fees withheld from damage deposit and/or expulsion from property) • Arrival time is 3:30pm or later, and check-out time is 11am or earlier. No exceptions to this, unless otherwise clearly arranged. Failure to abide by departure time may result in late check-out fee, or even an extra night charge levied. Early arrivals may be denied entrance to house if housekeeping is still ongoing. • A pair of Keys will be left on the premises in a key lock box mounted on the electric meter panel box cedar pedestal, located alongside the driveway. Key code will be given upon booking. • No Shoes worn in house. Shoes must be left in the slate tile entrance hallway. Slippers if you wish are in the coat closet. • Dogs are permitted, for an extra pet fee. Only behaved and trained dogs are permitted on property. Owners are responsible for damage caused by dogs. A dog bed is available, stored in a downstairs closet. Dogs are not permitted on furniture/in beds. Please pick up outside after your dog and dispose of. No Cats allowed at all! • No Smoking of any kind in the house, and no smoking outside near open windows or doorways. No tossing of cigarette butts outside. Any smoking smell found in house will incur a smoking cleaning fee, of $100-$200. • Egregious dirty messes left will incur an additional cleaning fee. Extended housekeeping or cleaning required after your stay, beyond the normal amount of time it should take, will also incur an extra cleaning fee. • Excessive consumption of alcohol and drunkenness on the premises is prohibited. Recreational drug use is strictly forbidden. While alcohol is permitted, this is not a party house. Extra cleaning fees or damage incurred as a result of alcohol consumption will be debited from the security deposit if necessary. • Respect the outside property. Do not damage trees or structures. The house is situated on a narrow lot down to the river, so respect the neighbors' property please and retrain from going on it. You may go down to the river from the house, and the riverbed itself is open to the public. • Any additional directions and requests by owner, owner's agents, or housekeepers must be followed and respected, which may supersede these house rules. • Authority to enforce: the homeowner, owner's agent, and any other authorized person, including the housekeeper, has been granted full authority to enforce the house rules and require good behavior and cooperation, and failure to follow and respect authorized persons, including housekeeper, may result in fees, fines, immediate expulsion from the property without compensation, or the proper authorities being called such as police. House Information and Safety: • You will arrive and depart on your own, likely without meeting anyone. Please feel welcome, come in, and make yourselves at home. • Housekeeping cleaning services are included before and at the end of your stay in the rental quote; more frequent mid-stay cleaning services may be possible to request for an additional $100 per session. • Internet: There is fast wireless internet with no password. There is cell phone service on the property. • Heating/cooling: In summertime, try natural temperature regulation: open the windows and skylights at night to let out heat and allow the house to cool down naturally. Then close windows in the heat of the day. In Winter, there is dual zone heating. Please refrain from opening windows while heat is on in colder seasons. • A portable air conditioner unit is upstairs for your use if necessary, and if not already done, you may install the exhaust hose window kit into the upstairs sitting room window. To function, you just install this house to the window, otherwise hot air will just come out the back of the unit. Lower the window so that it rests on the plastic tubing, and seal up the open gaps of air. • House amenities: All inside and outside household facilities and amenities may be freely used and enjoyed. Indoors, the house is fully furnished and equipped including all linens, kitchenware, soaps, and many pantry dry goods and other fresh items carried forward from past guests such as spices, oil, coffee, dressings, etc. Effort will be made to present the house as open and clean and tidy as possible. Feel free to use any food items in fridge or pantry unless otherwise specifically marked as Johnathan's. Owners personal effects, if present, are to be left alone. • Outside amenities, including canoe, two BBQ's, outdoor campfire ring, firewood piles, etc, may also be freely enjoyed. Canoe: There is a canoe for guests' use stored on the property which you may transport on your own car to nearby ponds or lakes. CANOE SAFETY: Always use life jackets when using the canoe, and life jackets (one per person) are required to be brought along with you on your trip. They are stored in the hallway closet. It is only intended for you to use the canoe on still-water, not rivers. Use of the canoe on fast moving rivers is strictly forbidden. Canoe use is permitted on nearby ponds, you must transport it on your car, and always use life-jacket. Canoe lock and accessories stored in hallway closet. Also stored with the life jackets are pads and tie-downs for safely transporting the canoe. Campfire: You may make a campfire in the designated outdoor stone fire ring in the yard. You may use the plenty of Free firewood in the stacks of wood found in the covered wood stand and/or other wood piles on property along driveway, fence, or between the pines. FIRE SAFETY: Always keep the fire attended, never leaving it unattended. For risk of forest fire, do not build a too-large fire in the fire-ring that it threatens the overhead branches, and only in the designated fire ring. Never leave fire unattended, and beware of flying sparks. Always keep the fire under control at all times due to the dry pine needles on the ground in the area and due to the low over- hanging branches. Do not make a campfire in dry and windy conditions! A wheelbarrow is in the wood shed. Chairs will either be around the fire ring or stacked on the outside deck overlooking the river. If using the axe to chop some wood (stored behind the wood stand), you must always use close toed shoes, protective clothing, and eye-glasses. Always keep your feet spread apart, and never chop toward your legs. Children are not permitted to chop wood on the property. BBQ Grill: Outside there are two bbq grills, one gas and one charcoal (with gas provided and maybe/maybe not charcoal stored in the wood shed). Please move BBQ away from house when cooking. • WINTER SAFETY: There is salt to melt any ice on the front porch and stepping stone, stored by the front door or wood shed and/or the hallway closet. There is a bucket of sand stored in the wood shed, if the driveway gets too icy- please use sparingly and spread by hand. Finally, there is a couple pairs of traction cleats that fit over your shoes, for walking on slippery surfaces, stored in the hallway closet. • Gas fireplace turns on/off with the little switch on the back left top corner of the unit. Please manually turn off the gas fireplace when leaving the house. In summer months, you may need to re-start the pilot light with the control panel under the unit. • Futon: If using the futon for sleeping, please utilize linens provided. Futon mattress pad protector and associated linens and sheets are located behind futon and/or in kneewall storage area behind the futon. After use, please strip linens and return futon to upright seated position, and this takes 2 persons to do together. • Extra blankets are stored in the brown ottoman in the first floor bedroom. • Photos hanging in the house are by owner and Adirondack photographer Johnathan Esper, and are available for sale to take home with you off the wall. Contact owner for details. • Recycling: We recycle All papers including cartons and box, All plastics including plastic bags and clean plastic packaging, All cans and bottles, and All glass and metals. Recyclables should be cleaned and put into labeled plastic container, separate from trash which goes into silver can next to stove. When full, please put into outside additional large trash and recycle bins located outside near deck. • Fire Extinguisher is located in the kitchen next to the stove.
