Small but functional little house set between the rice fields and jungle, with shared full sized saltwater pool. A double bed with a single bed in a loft above it. Ideal for a small family or 2 friends.
Private garden bathroom (with a coconut growing out of the centre!). Wooden hammock and small koi pond. Refrigerator, safe and wifi.
Surrounded by edible gardens, with a restaurant onsite. The perfect location for those seeking old Bali, yet with easy access to all other aspects of the island.
We can comfortably accommodate 3 people, but no more than this. There is one double bed and 1 small single loft, and we do not have any extra portable beds on the property. Sunita is one of 12 houses at Rahasia Manis, a retreat centre about 13 km north of Ubud. There is a shared full sized (10 meter) saltwater pool, sitting overlooking the jungle.
Breakfast is not included with any of our rentals. We do however offer an optional set breakfast for RP60,000 per person. Rather than raise our prices to include it, we offer the choice of paying for it or not. Besides our on site restaurant there are several lovely restaurants quite close by.
This sweet little house is completely self contained and private, with a small pond, and a garden bathroom. This is not the right property for those who want to party or make a lot of noise. Each house is private but still they are adjacent to one another. If someone has booked the whole property then of course they can do as they wish, within reason, (and that does include the rental of our neighbours property… everything is quite close), we also do not want to disturb the village! So please note that when considering our property, this is a place for those looking for calm and quiet, (although the frogs and roosters can be quite loud!).
Nature rules here and our objective here is to be in tune with it rather than drowning it out. We thank all future guests for appreciating and respecting this.
Please do not negotiate on the price, we are not charging high or low seasonal rates, and we are priced to function effectively while giving our guests the best value for their money. The 10m pool is currently shared by 12 different homes, although it is rare for all to be occupied at the same time, unless the entire property is rented as a whole.
We have easy access by motorbike or car (taxi services can be arranged) to Ubud, the cultural centre of Bali. The 30 minute drive is breathtaking, winding through the jungle, rice fields, river valleys and several traditional villages. Ubud abounds with restaurants, shops, spas, yoga, cooking, batik and art classes along with many healing modalities. It has several art galleries and a museum. Evenings offer Balinese dance performances, Fire ceremonies and Gamelan.
We are a one and a half hour drive from the airport, one hour from the nearest beaches and half an hour from Kintamani, which is on the edge of the volcano, Mount Batur. Sunita and the surrounding jungle and rice fields themselves are in a unique and tranquil setting.
Higher than Ubud towards the foothills of the volcano, it is tropical but not as hot as the beach areas. There are less mosquitoes but wildlife is abundant.
There is a manager, cleaners and gardeners. Laundry can be done for an additional fee. There is wi-fi, car or scooter parking just 5 minutes away.
PLEASE NOTE, THIS PROPERTY IS ON THE EDGE OF LIVING, WORKING RICE FIELDS, AND JUNGLE AND THERE ARE CREATURES AROUND THE PROPERTY. IT IS THOROUGHLY CLEANED DAILY (INCLUDING THE BEDS STRIPPED AND SWEPT), BUT THE ODD ANT, FROG, LIZARD OR OTHER LOCAL CREATURE MAY ENCROACH ON OCCASION. IF YOU ARE SQUEAMISH, SENSITIVE OR HAVE ANY KIND OF AVERSION TO SUCH A POSSIBILITY, THEN WE HIGHLY RECOMMEND YOU CHOOSE ANOTHER OF THE BALI LOCATIONS THAT IS NOT SO MUCH A PART OF THE NATURAL ENVIRONMENT. WE DO NOT HAVE AC, AND CHOOSE TO TAKE ADVANTAGE OF THE NATURAL BREEZES.
Although only 13 km from Ubud, we are uphill all the way, towards the volcano area. The temperature here is generally several degrees cooler than in Ubud. Comforters are needed on occasion and AC would be defunct.
Check in is any time after 2:00 pm.
Access to the property is via a 5 minute walk along a paved rice field path, (except for a short area that is unpaved). It is beautiful, authentic, used daily by local rice farmers but we think unsuitable for extremely elderly or infirm visitors.
There is a staff kitchen and enclosed area on the property strictly for our employees where they cook, do laundry, all their other tasks, and take their breaks. We ask guests to not enter this area and to allow our staff their private space.
We highly recommend guests use our drivers for your initial arrival at the property, we are in quite a remote and sparsely sign-posted area. We will give you the most concise directions we have, but it can still be challenging to find. We are not responsible for any delays should you choose to arrive independently. We guarantee that our drivers are all reliable, safe and trustworthy, and will not take you anywhere for commercial purposes only.
We have a yoga hall that is a separate rental. The cost is $15 an hour, or $100 for a full day. When not being used it serves as a storage area for all the yoga equipment, and our staff often use it as work space. We ask that guests not use it for any activity, but you are of course welcome to use all other public spaces. Several of the rooms are large enough for yoga, and you are welcome to use the pool area also. We have mats that we can lend our guests.
We are fully available to our guests, and although there is not always someone on site, we have local mobile phones for rent, so we can be reached at any time. There is daily cleaning, pool maintenance and gardening included. Our manager will be on hand and if you rent the Indonesian mobile it is already programmed with useful numbers and manager contact for your use. Daily offerings are made at the houses and temples on the land by our Balinese help.
Should you want complete privacy at any time, then we will fully respect that, just please let us know. However, offerings have to be accommodated at some time most days, plus we do need to attend to the edible gardens, and we ask that respect this. The latest time for the staff to come is 11 am, (they need 2 full hours to clean the houses), otherwise they will come the following day, or whenever is convenient for you.
We strongly recommend you use our drivers for airport transfers, the property is quite challenging to find, and our drivers know exactly where to go and will carry your bags in for you. They all charge the going rate and will meet you at the terminal with a sign. If you choose to come independently we cannot be held accountable for any delays or inconveniences you experience, a disclaimer spoken from experience!
Check in is any time after 2:00 pm.
For arrivals at the property at or after 7:00 pm there is a late check-in fee of Rp 150,000. This is because our staff only works until then, and our managers live a 40 minute drive away, therefore they will either have to wait or come back just to check you in. This late fee will not apply if you use one of our drivers to bring you to the house, as they will also be able to walk you and your bags into the house and complete the check in process for you. They are all either family members or completely familiar with our property. The manager will then see you the following morning.
If late check out is available (after 12 pm) it is Rp 50,000 per hour, and after 6 pm it is one full nights rental. We will be willing to hold onto your bags until 4.30 pm, but our staff leaves then so if you are not staying with us all bags must be picked up by then. Early check-in (before 2 pm) is also Rp 50,000, before 8 am it is a full night's rental.
All guests have access to the dining area and pool. The yoga hall is a separate rental, please contact us directly regarding this.

We respectfully ask guests not to negotiate on transport prices. You may find lower priced drivers on the streets of Bali, but this is often out of a degree of desperation, especially if someone has not had a job in a couple of days.
Our drivers charge the standard, fair, going rate. All are local men supporting families or students paying for an education, and we feel very strongly that they deserve to make a living wage.
WHEN YOU BOOK A DRIVER WE REQUIRE PAYMENT IN ADVANCE AND AT LEAST 24 HOURS NOTICE OF CANCELLATION, OR THIS PAYMENT IS FORFEIT, OTHERWISE OUR DRIVERS MIGHT NOT HAVE TIME TO FIND OTHER WORK.
Guests are always welcome to find their own drivers.
We thank you in advance for understanding.
- We are in a very quiet location, and we ask that guests always be considerate of others on the property. Please do not play music or instruments that can be heard by others. Unless the entire property is rented we ask that there be no parties or raucous behaviour. Most people choose our location for the tranquillity it provides. We do ask that you remove your shoes in all houses and the dining area.

I am a home owner, property manager, designer and building project manager, workshop facilitator and tour leader. I am a wife and the mother of two young children, and a Hindu with a deep connection to the religion, customs and traditions of my homeland. It is my pleasure to introduce you to authentic old Bali. The project we are developing aims to preserve everything that this Island of the Gods embodies, both historically and traditionally.
