The living room has a double futon and also a twin futon that you can move to the child's bedroom if you have two kids. The Link LightRail stop at Columbia Station is a 10 minute walk (or $5-7 with Uber) and will take you right to Downtown Seattle in 15 minutes, and goes all the way to the airport. It also goes all the way to the U district and Capital Hill. The bus stop to downtown is right down the block, bus #7. You can transfer to the #50 just a few blocks away, and that can take you to Seward Park, also all the way to Alki Beach in West Seattle – one of the best views of downtown Seattle.
We live on a quiet street across from a small nature preserve with trails through the woods, Hitts Hill Park. And we have lush gardens around the house, and a wild wooded backyard with massive fir, walnut and cotton wood trees that buffer against street noise and give a total privacy.
Parking on the street is free and always available, directly in front of the house.
We have worked for 12 years updating and remodeling this ranch house from 1955 ourselves, with an updated open-floor plan and double layered deck. There is a gas suspended fireplace in the living room, and a wood stove in the art studio. We Just remodeled the kitchen with subway tile and new appliances, and new gas stove and stainless fridge. The bathroom is recently remodeled with European fixtures, and low flow toilet, but we also restored the original 1950’s pink cotton-candy bathtub.
The beauty of Air B and B is getting to stay in unique places unlike any hotel.
**We are artists, so our home and studio are bohemian, quirky, textural, unusual and filled with art, antiques and vintage finds from our travels.**
Very colorful and comfortable with hand-painted wall details, reclaimed architectural elements, a huge glass wall and sky lights, and a unique garage door window that creates and airflow that keeps the whole house cool in summer, and light-filled in Seattle grey winter.
We hope you’ll love our special sanctuary and respect the love and effort we have put into it for more than a decade, by keeping the place clean and tidy and respecting our belongings and privacy!
Our home is also the home of a special cat who will come and go through a cat door in the studio, and eats from a self-feeder behind the sofa on a bench. He drinks from a self-feeder on the deck. The host will refill the feeders, but if you notice there is something wrong, please notify the host. Our cat, Pooshy is super sweet, easygoing and zen, and will let you hold him like a baby. He loves to sleep inside with you or on the sofa. But sometimes he sleeps in the crawl space below the house or with our elderly neighbor, so you don’t have to worry about bringing him in at night. He is quite independent, and there is no litter box in the house to worry about. He's the coolest! He is vaccinated, flea-treated and chipped. If you don’t like cats, our home is probably not a good fit for your needs.
-There is a washer and dryer.
-Small office with desk space for your laptop, a small couch, free Wifi.
***Note, we have no TV, but Columbia City is so rich with nightlife and things to do during the day, you won’t miss it.
-There is a stereo with Bose speakers built into the walls, a record player and record collection, and hook-up for your ipod/phone (headphone jack only– bring your own dongle for iphone7). Please adults only using the record player.
-The backyard is huge and wildly wooded and has a fire pit/chimenea, so you can make a fire some evenings. Fire wood can be purchased for $5 a bundle at Safeway on Rainier Ave., accessed with the bus #7. Please don’t use our seasoning wood in the yard.
-In Summer: As with most Seattle homes, there is no AC, because we only have 1-2 weeks of hot weather. But with the large garage-door window in the art studio, you can pull cool air through the whole house by opening upstairs windows. We also have fans, and the art studio is the place to hang out with its high ceilings that keep it cool. Please close all windows when leaving the house anytime.
-In Winter: Our home is heated in the main room with a beautiful Jotul suspended gas stove, and the bedrooms have individual space heaters. You can also hang out in the art studio, heated with a wood stove from Norway.
We love to live in one of the most ethnically diverse zip codes in the United States, with people from around the world, as well a family and LGBTQ friendly neighborhood! Our home welcomes people of all faiths and orientations. No hate, please.
Seattle requires home-owners to recycle and compost, so there will be available receptacles for you to separate your garbage, recycling and compost.
-Full kitchen, with everything you need to cook full meals with gas stove, new dishwasher and refrigerator, large coffee French press, and tea kettle. **Note: Our stove is rather small and not large enough to cook a large turkey. Please leave things as you found them, cleaning appliances and pots and pans. The Pantry is stocked with essentials if you need anything in a pinch, i.e. rice, beans, spices, olive oil, nuts, corn meal, tea, flour, sugar, coffee, granola bars. Bathroom has two open shelves for you, and baskets of essentials you might have forgotten, i.e. band aides, toothpaste, tampons, sunscreen, bug repellent, shampoo, soap, conditioner, hair dryer, beach towels for the lake.
-A short 5 minute drive or 20 minute walk to the incredible bit of old growth forest in Seward Park, a peninsula in Lake Washington (you most likely will see a bald eagle!), edged with bike trails and parks and swimming beaches and wildlife! Look at my 'Guidebook" for all kinds of suggestions.

I'm a multi-media visual artist and teacher. I'm a mom, I love to garden when I can and love to run with my dogs, and cuddle with my cat. My husband is an artist and works for King County Metro, and we homeschool our kid (and hope to add more traveling to his education of the world!) We have stayed at Air B n B's around the world and know how to make a great stay for a guest. We look forward to sharing our home that we love with you and know you'll respect and enjoy the work we've put into it.
