If you are looking for a basic, affordable 3rd floor walk up in an awesome neighborhood full of fun shops, restaurants, etc., this apartment is a good choice.
If you are looking for a pretty clean place, maybe keep looking. See below.
Doreen and Don, the renters, were very relaxed, responsive and helpful.
Roku with Netflix & Sling
They provided an iron and hair dryer when I inquired about one ahead of time.
2 sleeping areas
2 window air conditioning units, which successfully kept the apartment cool
Secure deadbolt locks
They provided shampoo & dish soap
There were about 5 nice, clean bath towels.
The shower was old, but basically clean with a clean, new seeming shower curtain. And the shower had AMAZING temperature and water pressure. Loved it.
Unit has lots of windows.
Parking pretty much sucked. We arrived late on a Friday evening, so weren't super surprised by that. Spent almost an hour looking for a spot. Most of the parking is either neighborhood permit only or pay every two hours during the day. We ended up paying $25 to park in a ramp for 24 hours as we couldn't get back to the car every 2 hours. I did speak with one of the renters about another Chicago airbnb I stayed in that provided a 1 day neighborhood parking permit, which made the world of a difference. He expressed interest in that, so hopefully by the time you are reading this the parking situation will be much improved. Otherwise they mentioned there were options farther out, but I had all of our stuff and a young child with me, so that wasn't an option for us.
The beds were uncomfortable.
The unit has only mini blinds, so once the sun was up, it became very bright and we were up.
The pillows were rough. Consider bringing your own. I actual bought 2 basic ones to donate to the unit, so enjoy those!
The biggest con is that the place wasn't very clean. There was hair, dust balls, cobwebs and spider eggs throughout. I'm not convinced the sheets had been washed as they were covered in hair, skin,+. There were only fitted sheets too, so nothing to separate you from the blanket, which had definitely not be recently washed.
We had a wonderful time, but I would not stay here again. I do still think it's a good unit for someone used to sleeping a bit rougher, someone that wants access to a Mac (there's one in the unit), someone that doesn't mind cleaning while on vacation, someone that likes to play guitar (there are 5 in the unit) someone that brings their own sheets, etc. The unit has lots of potential and provided a basic home base for us for a super fun weekend.
