"Caring for the structures of the past is a worthy pursuit" says Architect Jim Smith.
Anneliesa and Jim visited the area after watching the HBO series Deadwood. We fell in love with the Black Hills, its rich history and historic homes. The "Flower of the Hills", built in 1905 on the site of the Flower of the Hills patented lode mining claim, was a compelling renovation. In spite of several remodels done by former owners during its 110+ year life, the Craftsman home retained many original features that simply needed to be excavated and brought to light again. We did exactly that during a 6 month renovation full of exciting discoveries!
Now, the Flower of the Hills once again sits in shining beauty on the top of the hill near downtown historic Lead. Staying in this restored home offers our guest a truly memorable experience, in a historic setting rich in natural beauty and cultural interest.

This home was just as presented. Anneliesa was wonderful and very informative. The location was great in the Black Hills. So much to see, Goldmime in Lead, Deadwood, Tatanka Story of The Bison. Then down to the Badlands. Traveled up the Spearfish Canyon Scenic Byway to Devils Tower just over the border in Wyoming. We went to see Mt. Rushmore and Crazy Horse one day. Went back another day to Custer State Park and Needles Hwy. We were there a full week and it was wonderful.

A great place to bring the dog and cook on the new gas range and kitchen. Loved the backdrop against the hill and view across the gulch. The private drive to park off-street was a huge plus to bring our gear right next the front door. The new patio deck out front was nice to play some card games. Captures the historic building feel, but with today's amenities.

Wonderful older home with lots of character and space. High ceilings and spacious rooms were a major plus for members in our group (6'9" and 6'6"), comfortable beds, access to a garage and a wonderful wrap around porch to enjoy the sunset views. The weather cooperated fully so never had to use the room air conditioners. Our group thought it was the perfect place - quiet neighborhood for a good night's sleep yet close enough to explore all that western South Dakota has to offer. Please check out the Sanford Lab's Visitor Center and take the trolley tour - you may learn something! We will definitely stay here again!
