"Caring for the structures of the past is a worthy pursuit" says Architect Jim Smith.
Anneliesa and Jim visited the area after watching the HBO series Deadwood. We fell in love with the Black Hills, its rich history and historic homes. The "Flower of the Hills", built in 1905 on the site of the Flower of the Hills patented lode mining claim, was a compelling renovation. In spite of several remodels done by former owners during its 110+ year life, the Craftsman home retained many original features that simply needed to be excavated and brought to light again. We did exactly that during a 6 month renovation full of exciting discoveries!
Now, the Flower of the Hills once again sits in shining beauty on the top of the hill near downtown historic Lead. Staying in this restored home offers our guest a truly memorable experience, in a historic setting rich in natural beauty and cultural interest.
Porch swing. Graceful wrap-around porch. South facing "Morning Coffee" deck. Private setting. The "Flower of the Hills" is located on a corner lot that is literally carved out of the hillside, offering privacy and the chance to wander the hills where you may encounter wild turkeys, deer, jack rabbits and artifacts from the hill’s mining history.
