Take your slippers off and walk barefoot around this Native Hawaiian Forest. At Ahu Lani Sanctuary you can enjoy ocean and mountain views and the quiet peace of being nestled within a private 24 acre native Hawaiian Ohia and Koa forest. This off-grid 6 acre ranch has 9 bedrooms and 5 baths. A wrap-around Lani makes for great gathering spaces to enjoy meals, relax and read, nap, and hang out with the friends/family. Enjoy yoga, meditation, and more in the 30 foot round room.
If you desire a peaceful place to relax and live the Aloha spirit, Ahu Lani Sanctuary is perfect. At the end of the road, enjoy trees and birds for neighbors and the breeze as your companion throughout the day. Ahu Lani is blessed with morning sunshine and afternoon rain showers (typically). At 3,000 feet of elevation the temperature is cooler but pleasant with mid to high 80s during the day and high 60s at night. Another perk of this elevation is the lack of bugs and mosquitoes. Enjoy some of the clearest night skies in the world!
Once you arrive at Ahu Lani you won't want to go anywhere, but if you do desire some Big Island adventures, Waipio Valley is only 25 minutes down through Historic Honoka'a Town. Ahu Lani is adjacent to the Kalopa Forest Reserve which has great hiking trails for exploring. Hapuna (one of the nicest beaches on all of the islands and arguably the world) is only 45 minutes through Waimea. Get to Volcano in an hour and change and explore the Hamakua coast and the plentiful waterfalls only minutes away.
This land is sacred and will take your breath away. The round room is ready for yoga, mediation, dance, and group gatherings.
Go for a walk among the native Hawaiian Ohia and Koa trees and get lost in time. You won't want to leave!
Ahu Lani is a full retreat facility with everything you need. You will have full access to all 9 bedrooms and 4 bathrooms, kitchen (fully equipped), living area, outside dining areas, round room, laundry room, and the land.
The owners live in a separate cabin on-site and are available to help with solar power and living off grid along with sharing knowledge of the land.
Accessing a remote and private forest requires a sense of adventure and the proper vehicle. The road is dirt for the last 1/2 mile and it is rough and steep, 4x4 is highly recommended to keep the road from getting chewed up, but high clearance will suffice. Smaller compact cars will make it, but we do not recommend vehicles without clearance.
This is a working ranch so there are animals on the property such as horses, goats, chickens, dogs, and cats. Animals are not permitted in rooms or common areas. Sorry, no additional animals are allowed.
Ahu Lani is a working ranch and farm along with a native forest. You are welcome to visit with the animals and we offer rides for an additional fee. We highly suggest you spend several days of your stay on the land taking some time to relax at the base of Mauna Kea. If you desire quiet time we can halt loud operations to make for a peaceful place for meditation and sitting with the trees.
We are available for interpretation and answering any questions and also helping you with getting around the island.
We are off -grid which means we make power from the sun and by running generators. We prefer to stay solar powered if possible, you may have to change some habits to make this work.
Communications are available by a cell phone booster for all carriers but Verizon, which doesn't work at Ahu Lani. We also have satellite internet, which can be used for communication but not for entertainment (other than music). Coming to the forest is a chance for you to unplug and we know you will enjoy that chance if you so desire.
We are 45 minutes from Hapuna Beach, 30 to Waimea, and 25 to Waipio Valley. Hilo is an hour and Kona is 1 hour 20 minutes. Honokaa Town is the closest grocery store, it is 20 minutes away.
As our garden grows you will be able to enjoy the produce it provides on a donation basis. We also have laying chickens with eggs also available for purchase.
