Tucked away on a mountain at 4100' overlooking Lake Glenville just north of Cashiers N.C. is this recently constructed rustic cabin retreat with spectacular views that can accommodate 8 in comfort and privacy without "overload."
The Aerie Retreat offers three formal bedrooms, a convertible couch, king or twin daybed, and 3 1/2 baths in a private wooded atmosphere with all contemporary features, utilities and electronics.
Relax in front of the two wood-burning fireplaces in comfortable rustic style but with all of the modern conveniences including DISH TV (basic), DVD, Roku, Netflix/Amazon Prime/Hulu, WiFi internet (main plus back-up system) and telephone landlines. Enjoy a full complement of exercise and entertainment equipment including both adult and child sized pool tables and ping pong; air hockey; fussball; rowing machine/weights/bench and TRX straps; outside childrens' playground; 15' covered swim spa (winterized between November and April but available then at extra charge); 14' trampoline; adult and kids paddle boards; kids kayak; basketball; fishing kayak and canoe; fishing equipment; toys, board games, gas and stone grills, newly added outdoor dining table and seating for six, and much more. 30 Amp exterior hook-up. Private POA docking rights on the lake. Numerous trout streams and lake fishing. Rent a pontoon boat at nearby Signal Ridge Marina. Sand beach just down the road on Pine Creek by the dam. Just 15 minutes to Cashiers; 25 minutes to Highlands and 45 minutes to Brevard and the Blue Ridge Parkway. Because this is a unique and special place and our home in the mountains, it is not a " business" rental and is only occasionally rented out for family group reunions, celebrations and retreats.
Guests have access to all the amenities described above and all athletic equipment in the garage.
If you are here, I am probably in Atlanta, but always available by text, email or phone.
Guests are required to sign an Assumption of Risk, Waiver and Indemnity Agreement relating to the Swim Spa and the Trampoline and are bound by the standard rental agreement on this site.
There is no garbage pick-up. You will need to bag your garbage and run it down to the Jackson County dump which is located on Rt. 107 about one mile north of the intersection at Pine Creek Road or to the Macon County dump which is on Rt. 64 about a mile from the intersection with 23. You should be aware that there are bears and other wild animals up here that like garbage so all of yours should be secured in the garage at all times.
Although it is self-evident, this is the mountains, the woods and the country. Notwithstanding the modern conveniences, you should not expect a suburban experience. There is the customary representative species of animals, rodents, bees, birds, snakes and bugs who live in the great N.C. outdoors, but not in the Retreat. When you arrive and during your stay, please pay attention to your environment and the natural habitats and habits of these creatures as, for example, one guest encountered a copperhead on the property sunning itself (without adverse consequences). The occasional bear is around the area along with several foxes. Young children should be supervised at all times throughout the property. As you will see, the outdoor terrain and steps are sometimes irregular and steep.
Finally, please allow sufficient advance notice of booking to accommodate the logistics of getting the Aerie Retreat ready for your visit.
Thanks for your consideration.
As a general rule, 4 day minimum in the summer/fall and 3 day minimum in the winter. Special 4 day rates over holidays. No pets please without prior approval. Absolutely no smoking inside. All guests must sign Assumption of Risk and Waiver Agreement relating to the trampoline and swim spa. This is our home in the mountains, is occasionally available to guests and is not a "rental" property. Everything that you would expect to find in a carefully maintained vacation home is provided for your enjoyment, excepting only personal items, food and liquor. Guests are expected to treat the accommodations as they would their own and to read and follow the instructions relating to the systems and the swim spa.
Born in Argentina, grew up in Switzerland and Atlanta resident since 1975; retired attorney; single dad of grown and young children; professional mediator of commercial disputes. I split my time between my circa 1900 "shotgun" house here in Atlanta and a cabin in the North Carolina mountains. I enjoy motorcycling and traveling almost anywhere - with particular focus on on the old "Eastern Bloc"; hiking and alternative lodging. I hope to provide the same kind of experience and amenities in the Aerie Suite that I appreciate when traveling.
