Copthorne is a welcoming 5 bedroom house with a large well-kept garden in a quiet area, four minutes' walk to the Market Place, centre of picture postcard Durham City with its 11th century World Heritage Site castle and much loved cathedral. Hild's/Bede College is nearby, also Walkergate with its stylish bars, family restaurants, swimming pool, gym and the Gala Theatre and Cinema.
Visitors occupy the entire lower floor with 3 bedrooms, bathroom, patio, hallway, private entrance and garden.
The owners are locals, a teacher and an ex-teacher, who along with their children, a son and a daughter, all attended Durham University. They are interested in all sports and theatre, and have extensive knowledge of Durham and the surrounding area.
One of the owners will be living upstairs and will always be available for advice and information. The 2 floors are connected by a staircase and because of this, the property is not suitable for very young children.
Guests have private access to the entire bottom floor which comprises 2 double bedrooms, 1 bedroom with 2 single beds which can be used as a common room if required, a hallway, the large shaded patio and the substantial garden. A staircase connects the upper floor with the lower floor which makes the apartment unsuitable for very young children.
The owner is an ex-Durham University, Durham County, Netherlands and Hong Kong international cricketer. He also played semi-professional soccer for Durham City. Lots of information will be offered concerning County Durham, Durham City, the university, the cathedral and the local sports, arts and social scenes. He can communicate at a low level in the French and Dutch languages and is keen to share experiences with foreigners.
The owners are animal lovers. Our delightful cats are kept indoors although they do have access to the upstairs balcony and the rooms upstairs, including the double garage. We also suspect we have a very shy and retiring resident garden hedgehog!
