The Black Barn Farm studio apartment is located in the Green Mountains of Vermont with onsite opportunities for swimming, fishing, camping, bonfires and snowshoeing on the beautiful 38 acres along the Joiner brook. The central location offers easy access to world class skiing, snowmobiling, rock climbing, foraging and mountain biking.
The Studio apt has a private entrance and parking, with private fenced in yard and access to the bridge over the waterfall/gorge and leading to the 35 wooded acres on the other side of the river. The space is perfect for a couple, fine for three adults (with one on the pullout couch) and cozy for a family with kids. There is a full kitchen with all necessities including toaster oven and coffee maker. The private yard has a chicken coop with free range chickens, so please consider when talking with us about your pet. There may be times we need access to the boiler room, located behind the apt and accessed through your space, but we will text notification if that need arises. We live upstairs with our 5 & 7 year olds. While we try to be conscious of the noise level, sound does carry downstairs. When the weather is nice we are often outdoors.
Guests will have access to the studio apt and private yard. Swimming in the brook and walking the property will be at your own risk. Swimming can be dangerous, there are no lifeguards and the water is cold. There is a super cool Barn Cave that offers evening hang out opportunities for larger groups or events. Additional fees may apply.
We are available as much or as little as possible, depending on your preference. Mike, Chealsea, Oliver (7), Jon (5) Scout (dog) and Black & Cute (2 cats) live upstairs so the sound of playing and morning time school prep is unavoidable. Curt (aka Grandpa) lives in the in-law apartment next to the barn.
Social connection can range from a wave as you go for a quick hike, to sitting down for a shared meal and play date with the kids. The choice will be yours and your privacy will be respected.
We are actively working to enhance the farm. From Spring - Fall you may find us outside working (typically evenings and weekends). You are always welcome to come see what we are up to.
Common spaces like the Barn, swimming hole, bonfire pits etc are routinely used by the us, our friends and family but varying degrees of privacy and separation is possible depending on your needs. Let us know what you have in mind, your preferences, and we will see if it's something we can accommodate.
Our family, which includes a six-year-old and a seven-year-old, a dog and two cats, live above the studio apartment. We make an effort to keep the noise level low, however, you are likely to hear the boys playing and running around. If at anytime this is disruptive let us know and we can find alternative play areas for the kiddos.
- Quiet hours 11 p.m. - 5 a.m.
- Events/gatherings/parties possible - please contact us to discuss your event.
- Swimming is at your own risk; no lifeguards and adult supervision is highly recommended.
