The property was originally settled by white settlers in the 1850’s, during the famous gold rush. The lath & mud construction cottage located next to the current accommodation was the original ‘Homestead’. There was a single, giant, ancient pine tree that once shaded this humble dwelling, now gone, it lent its name to the current property.
