Wow, this is an incredibly disappointing review from someone that we bent over backwards to accommodate on multiple changes to her arrival time, meaning we stayed home all day waiting for her when she ended up arriving after 6pm. Despite that, I offered for her to join us for dinner when she arrived since she was on her own because that is the kind of hospitality we offer.
I urge future guests to read all our other very generous reviews and see Fiona’s one for the anomaly that it is.
However, I would like to address her concerns to reassure future guests:
Yes, we have dogs, we make that clear. Our dogs and goats are one of the reasons many people stay with us! It’s impossible to not have dog hair in a house with dogs, though we thoroughly clean before people arrive with a strong pet vacuum. Anyone with dogs will know a room can be spotless and then have dog hair within five minutes. We urge people who have a problem with pets to stay elsewhere as our dogs are part of the family and are definitely indoor dogs given their Seeing Eye Dogs history.
Our property is on two acres so we deliberately don’t have a blind in the massive guest bathroom so people can experience the beautiful outdoors while still having complete privacy. No other guest has ever complained about this, in fact some have commented on how lovely it is to have the feeling of openness.
To be told in her private review that there is no indoor fireplace in the guest area is simply not true. That’s exactly where our fireplace is! We deliberately use our second lounge room in winter so guests have the one with the fireplace to themselves. We would have happily lit the fire for Fiona if she had wanted it but she said she just wanted a nice hot shower and to go to bed after a long day, which is exactly what she did.
When Fiona left she said she’d had a lovely night’s sleep and enjoyed her stay, not raising a single issue with us. Yet in a private message she complained our sheets were “old and tattered”. She was sleeping on literally brand new sheets! We normally get compliments on our bedding and I’ve even had guests ask me where I buy it from (Bed Bath and Table and Sheridan). I’m truly perplexed by this comment from her.
Fiona also seems to fail to understand the concept of renting a room, not an entire house, complaining of a shared kitchen? This is all made patently clear in our listing.
I would also like to note that Fiona stayed with us on the coldest weekend we have had in some years— FROM BRISBANE. If you can’t stand the cold the Macedon Ranges are definitely not the place for you in winter. We would have put the heater on in Fiona’s bedroom before she arrived but given her arrival time changed repeatedly over the space of more than four hours it made that difficult to do so without being very unfriendly to the environment.
I can’t emphasise enough how upset we are with Fiona’s review. She went so far as to suggest to us privately we shouldn’t even be Airbnb hosts. Seriously. I think all of our other wonderful reviews from other guests, including return guests, would beg to differ. We are proud of our offering, we love that so many people say they felt like they were staying with friends and would return if in the area again. We love meeting new people, and so do our dogs and goats. We look forward to welcoming you soon. Thanks for reading our response. :-)
