Colourful and comfortable Victorian era workers cottage located 2km from Melbourne CBD. Our home offers one queen size bedroom, lounge with separate dining and a courtyard with garden. The kitchen is stocked with ample utensils, crockery, herbs and spices. Towels and linen provided. Only a short walk to Smith and Gertrude Street's cafes, bars, restaurants, galleries and shopping and has easy access to a range of public transport services, parks and other fun stuff.
We purchased this place in 2008 and have lived in it ever since. We are currently looking after our friend’s home over the other side of town which is why our home has become available for a brief while.
BLAH House is an old workers cottage/terrace house that was built in the early 1920s. It is sandwiched between two 3-storey businesses in an upcoming neighbourhood which is seeing many cafés, bars and studio spaces pop up in the surrounding back streets.
The mural on the front fence and in the back yard were painted by me. I also hand wove the wavelength which hangs above-head in the hallway.
As the House is nearly 100 years old, you will notice signs of its age – cracks in the wall, uneven flooring, doors that don’t quite close or are hard to open. We can assure you the building is safe, these issues are signs of its age and part of its heritage.
Access is to the entire house except for the second bedroom which is locked and is our personal storage space. The old external toilet has been converted into a tool shed which is also locked.
If you require, I am available to provide you with general information about what you can do in the area and around Melbourne. I am just a phone call or email away.
Smoking is permitted in the courtyard. Please use ashtrays provided.
Cleanliness - While we do a thorough clean between each guest stay, we ask that prior to leaving you clean and put away any dishes or kitchenware used, put all the garbage in the correct bin and leave any dirty towels on the bathroom floor.
An additional cleaning cost for pets is to be negotiated before confirming booking.
Energy - To keep our costs down, we kindly ask that you switch off all lights, air con and heating when it's not in use or when leaving the house.
Damage - We understand that accidents happen but we do ask that you please let us know when they do. Chances are that we can fix them as effortlessly as possible which also means better chances of having your full security deposit returned.
Waste Disposal - We provide a general waste and recycle bin in the kitchen. We also have a worm farm on the front porch for degradable scraps (if you feel that way inclined). A waste bin is also provided in the bathroom for any sanitary items.
Pets - Housetrained dogs are welcome! We have a dog door that is suitable for a small-medium size dog providing access to the courtyard. Please dispose of your pooch's waste before leaving. Dog bedding and food/water bowls can be provided on request.
Noise - Located on an inner city road, you can expect some noise from the street. Passing traffic during the day time and sometimes rowdy revellers making their way to and from neighbourhood venues on weekends.
Security - Warning - It is possible to lock yourself out of the front door. It is a key operated door so please be mindful of having the keys on you. Please deadlock the locks on both front and back door when leaving the property. A call out fee will apply if you require a spare key.
