This was John's first trip to Thailand. He kept saying that our villa is not up to 5 star standards. He brought a virtual "microscope". He first commented with photos, that there was rust on the bottom of the chairs.. We are 500 m from the ocean.. we could clean that every day and there would be rust. The infinity pool has a waterfall and it does have an infinity overflow but he didn't mention the view of the entire ocean, 180 degrees. He also didn't mention that every time he had an issue, we were immediately responsive, sending people to the villa to try to placate him. I had my manager spend a morning cleaning dishes so they were satisfactory to him. He sent photos of what he thought was dirt and grease, which I had our maids clean for him to show him it wasn't. He insisted that we buy him lounge chairs which we did.. at our cost, to placate him. I even bought him a dinner to make him feel better.. and it goes on and on. The villa is definitely located on a hill but so are ALL villas in samui that have a view. John was very disturbed by the size of the pool, but it is almost 10 meters across and 3 meters wide.. it's not huge.. but we've had tons of people stay and never complain. I feel like there is nothing I could have done to please John and his group. The type of villa John is looking for exists in Samui.. Our villa is an excellent value, but it is not a 60,000 baht villa (is it usually 1/4 that price) . For 60,000 baht a night, you can get a huge pool, a private chef, etc.. BUT our villa is a home not a hotel.. and I believe John was expecting 5 star hotel type accommodations for 10 people but was disappointed when he saw it is really just our beautiful home. Most of our rentals are not through AIRBNB, so unfortunately, it is hard to prove, but ALL of our customers have been elated with our villa in light of the value, view, and furnishings.. I think John just had unreasonable expectations and we tried hard to meet them but evidently were not successful.
