While I regret any inconvenience to Richard, I must note that all my other guests have had a great experience - for example, see recent reviews below by Scott (his group stayed for 3 months), and Joel (who stayed for over a month with his family).
My observations regarding his specific complaints:
1. As seen in my photos, the kitchen has a dining counter, with comfortable padded chairs for 4 to 6 people. It seems he didn't want to use that, and preferred a dining table which I don't really advertise, although there is one - it is provided with stools for seating only because chair backs would obstruct the view of the TV from the couch.
2. Since I often stay at this home myself, I've furnished the master bedroom as per my personal preference, with a firm mattress (this is noted in my photo captions). Richard feels it was "rock hard", but its just a standard firm mattress. I've received positive feedback from other guests regarding the sleeping amenities. Also, he never mentioned this during his stay! I really wish he had informed me at the beginning and I'd have been happy to supply a mattress topper.
This was Richard's first Airbnb booking, and it seems he didn't fully read the description before booking. That is perhaps understandable, and I empathize, as he described himself as not a tech savvy person - but it does make it challenging for me as a host.
For the best experience, I encourage my guests to read the full description and photo captions, and to feel very welcome to bring up any concerns after checkin, which I'm happy to address when possible.
