Our family of five will be out of the house whenever we list the property. We will be accessible to you via phone and text for any questions you may have. Either we or a neighbor will come by daily to check in our chickens (no roosters!), who live in a coop inside of the barn.
We're fully equipped for little ones. Upon request we have booster seats, a high chair, 2 pack-n-plays, access to lots of children's toys, books, games and probably anything else you can think of for kids. The kitchen is stocked with kid-friendly dishes, cups, and silverware as well. In fair weather, the swing set is a great place for kids to play.
9,000 feet of altitude is nearly double that of Denver. It's important to stay hydrated, avoid overly strenuous exercise on your first day, and note that alcohol has a greater impact than at sea level.
Deer, elk, foxes, chipmunks, eagles, and falcons are regularly seen on and around the property. Peaceful observation is a common activity on our mountainside.
Black bears and mountain lions also live in the area. While encounters are rare and generally harmless, it is important to consider the presence of these predators. Please make sure food and trash secured. We recommend that you limit your walking, hiking, and running to daylight hours.
Fire: Fire danger is extreme in our area. Other than the indoor gas fireplace, no fires are allowed. Though no smoking is allowed indoors under any circumstances, if you smoke outside please handle your ashes with extreme care.
Septic System: We operate on a septic system rather than a regular sewer connection. Please don’t flush anything other than toilet paper down the toilets. Additionally, avoid using the disposal for food waste. Please use the trash for food solids and oil.
Altitude: Our altitude is 9,000 feet. This is nearly double the altitude of Denver. For some people, there is an adjustment to the altitude. A few tips:
o Stay hydrated.
o Avoid super vigorous exercise in the first day.
o If you consume alcohol, please note that it will have a greater effect than at sea level.
Predators: Both mountain lions and black bears live in the immediate area. They aren’t generally aggressive, but it’s important to respect them. We recommend not hiking around outside after dark (porches are fine). Also, never leave any food outside of the house as it will attract the bears.
Peace and Quiet: One of the first things you will notice upon arrival is the extreme quiet around you. Please help preserve it, particularly after 9:00 PM.
Care for the house: Please make yourself at home, but we suggest you remove your shoes to help keep the great outdoors outdoors.
Responsibility: The owner is not responsible for any accidents, injuries or illness that occurs while on the premise. The owner is not responsible for the loss of personal belongings or valuables of the guest. It is agreed that all guests are expressly assuming the risk of any harm arising from their use of the premises or others whom they invite to use the premise.
After spending over ten years in Phoenix, in 2016 we found ourselves with remote work, no longer tethered to a place by jobs. It was time to decide whether we were going to stay put for the long haul with our 3 young children, or pick another place for them to grow up. The discussion lead us to the mountains west of Denver, where we couldn't resist the incredible natural beauty and the opportunity for a little more space.
Our hope is to get creative with the land we have and turn it into a little mountainside homestead, starting with chickens, a few milk goats, and alpine garden this year. In fact, we intend to use airbnb proceeds to fund some of these projects. So if you visit us twice, the second time you will know that you played a part in developing some of the new features!
