Located on the Tablelands of Far North Queensland, 5kms from Malanda. "Kunchi Sanctuary" is a private home (half home,), with sweeping views and a hectare to get lost in. Close to rivers, waterfalls, villages, cafes, organic farms and country pubs. A perfect place for weekend getaways, a creative retreat to write that book or sit around the fire with friends. Suitable for couples, solo adventurers, business travellers, families (with kids), and furry friends (pets), short or long term stays.
The sanctuary is half our home, so it is not detached, but walls and a lockable door separates the spaces. It consists of an atrium room facing east which can be used as a private practise space, writers retreat or converted to a bedroom if you have extra guests coming, The loft has 2 queen beds that are separated by wardrobes, but is fundamentally the one big space. The kitchen is all yours on most occasions, we can explain this when you make an inquiry. Outside the kitchen is a table for alfresco dining or afternoon cups of tea or celebratory champagnes. There is a open space lounge with couch, cushions and a dining table. Private bathroom. And there are 3 separate entrances to this space. The images of the back deck are on the other side of our home, but we invite you to share it with us and use as you like.
The garden is yours to also roam around in or lay a blanket under the shade of a tree.
Although there are separate entrances to the 2 spaces of the home, there is a good chance we will see each other as the car parking area is one, and to get to the 2nd space we need to pass by the kitchen or the atrium. There is lots of glass windows and doors to let in the natural light. I guess what I am trying to say here is, if you want total privacy (not see anyone during your time here) maybe this is not the perfect space for you.
Expansive views, peace and quiet with a beautiful working space for those that would like to retreat and complete that creative project. There is a sunny atrium that is perfect for sitting to watch the world go by or be productive and write that book or business plan!
A half house, self contained with 3 entry points. There is no under cover parking. Parking is close to the home and all in the one area, so make sure you leave the space for others to exit the property.
I am available to chat, give hints about what's good to do, provide breakfast, or leave you alone.
Our home is shared with wildlife that you may occasionally encounter. A friendly bandicoots may say hi, a possum may run across the roof or the bush turkey could follow you down the drive way.
We use very few chemicals in our home primarily for 2 reasons; we are on a septic system for grey water, and we love animals, even those annoying little flies, mozzies and spiders. We clean with bi-carb soda and vinegar. If you need a chemically cleaned place, this is not for you!
- This is a peaceful place with lots of room to play or relax.
- Smoking is permitted outside but away from open entries.
- It is half a house that is closed off and fully self-contained.
- Please be mindful of other guests and the host, who does like a chat.
We keep our home clean and tidy and ask you do the same. Laughter, music, chatting and fun are often had here. You are welcome to bring your own version of joy and fun to our home.
Hi, I am Melinda (on the left),
I travelled extensively in my youth (Africa, central and North America, Europe and Asia) and look forward to more adventures in the future. Still so many places to explore and cultures to experience, and languages to learn.
Melissa and I share a beautiful home on the Tablelands, Far North Queensland and have been friends for many years. and had many adventures together.
We share our home and co-create with another dear friend of ours called Rhonda. Rhonda spends most of her time on a mountain top in the heart of Bali working with a local villagers developing an organic farm that will ultimately serve and support many people.
The proceeds from you, our AirBnB guests, go to this social enterprise which is producing an heirloom ginger that will save lives as a preventative health tonic. Of course if you travel to Indonesia you are welcome to visit or stay at the farm and experience it for yourself. Ask us why our retreat is called "Kunchi Sanctuary" to know more.
As a side note - I trained and worked as a Wet tropics tour guide in the far north for many years, so I can offer you a private tour, or tell me what you want your interests are and we can create a tailored tour especially for you. Or maybe you just want some transport or a transfer? We have a 6 passenger 4WD that is quite often available. Let us know when you make an inquiry.
