Our newly renovated English Basement is close to the Capitol, Union Station, and the fabulous transportation, restaurants and nightlife on H Street. It has everything you need: a private entrance, a comfortable queen-size bed, a new model pull-out sofa that converts either to 2 twins or 1 queen as you request, a full bath, your own washer and dryer, a kitchenette with a cooktop, microwave, fridge & freezer, Wifi, cable and a flatscreen TV with surround sound. We also provide baby equipment!
We have added descriptions to the pictures above so you can visualize the space. Overall, the space is about the same size and layout as a hotel suite, with the advantage of a private laundry room, a fully equipped kitchenette, and seating for 4 around a murphy breakfast table. We've chosen our bedding for comfort, including brand new mattresses, real down duvets and pillows, and allergen covers. In addition to basic cookware, we also provide a Keurig, gourmet coffee & tea, fresh towels and travel-sized organic toiletries.
Although the apartment connects to a rear patio through the back door, the patio is privately used by our family.
Likewise, the door upstairs leads to our private home and is kept locked (on both sides for your comfort & safety).
You will have access to your own laundry room stocked with laundry detergent and ironing equipment (we use a separate laundry room upstairs). We use one side of the laundry room as a long-term storage space, but will only be accessing it in between guests so that we do not disturb your stay. Feel free to let children play in the front yard too!
If you are travelling with a large party, you may be interested in our spectacular guest house, which is a private home connected to the property. The guest house accommodates 8 people and offers many more amenities.
We live in the main home, directly above the English basement.
We do like to meet you for check in, and answer any of your questions in person. We also like to chat with you for a few minutes before you leave (if you have time) to make sure everything went well. Other than that, we will give your privacy for the duration of your stay, but we are always available by text or phone for questions, concerns or tips on visiting DC. Addressing your concerns asap is very important to us, so if any problems arise, no matter how minor, please do reach out to us right away.
IMPORTANT: Please consider whether any of the following limitations would be inconvenient for you:
1. Although the space is separate from the main house, the utilities are shared. This means you will not be able to control the main heating / air-conditioning system, and you will hear water as it flows up & down the pipes from our home above. We do provide a space heater, extra blankets and fans to help you be comfortable (being a basement, it tends to be the coolest part of the house in the summer).
2. We own a small dog. The dog has never been allowed in the basement to protect the space from allergens, and is quiet at night. You may occasionally hear some barking / scratching around upstairs during the day.
3. We have 3 small children. Their day is from 7 am to 7 pm, and although we have insulated between the two floors and added a soundproofing door blanket, you will probably hear muffled child noises during those times. If you like to sleep in and are sensitive to noise, this may not be the best place for you.
ON THE UPSIDE: We're family friendly! Just let us know and we can make a high chair, booster seat, baby gates, pack & play, child-size dishes, bibs or toys available. Our trusted family nanny lives 3 blocks away and is collaborating with us to provide babysitting upon request, should you like a night out. We're also happy to share insider, child-friendly secrets on visiting DC!
- No guests of guests
- Since you will be sharing a house with us and party walls with the neighbors, please be mindful of noise levels (indoors and outdoors) after 10 pm.

My husband Blaise and I are in our late 30's, and both grew up in France, but we now call DC our home and absolutely love it. We have 3 young rambunctious children, I work as a nurse and Blaise is in IT, but secretly I have been dreaming of owning a bed & breakfast for almost 15 years. Airbnb is a chance for me to fulfill that dream! We have fallen in love with our charming neighborhood, and know you will too. It's ethnically diverse, close to some amazing restaurants and public transportation, and close to the Capitol!
We're big-time foodies and 10-year DC residents who've shown plenty of family & friends around, so don't hesitate to ask for our restaurant & tourist site recommendations! As parents we can also advise on age-appropriate attractions for your kiddos.
