If you want to be cosy and self-contained, while still feeling connected with your hosts, this could be the place for you.
This newly-renovated loft occupies the whole 2nd floor of our beautiful grade 2 listed home in the heart of Totnes.
We are only 10 minutes' walk from the centre of town and a well-stocked corner shop is 2 minutes away.
If you come by car we can provide you with a parking space, or Totnes train station is around a 10-15 minute walk away.
The flat was installed 4 years ago to provide a living space for our daughter, who has now moved away. While it is a part of our home, with no separate locking doors, it is self contained with its own bathroom and basic kitchen facilities, using all of the top floor in our house. Access is through our front door, which takes you through our office into the beautiful listed stairwell leading to our bedrooms on the first floor and the flat on the second floor. We have no locks on any doors either, so we rely on trust and respect from you, as well as respecting your space during your stay. We are easy with you passing through as you need to, and are always happy to help out if you need to find your way in and around Totnes.
As our property is on a double yellow line at the front of the house, we offer you a parking space at the back of the house, from which you can easily walk to the front door. If you bring your bikes, you can park them in our back yard out of view from the road, but not under cover and not behind a locked door. If you stay with us, you can make use of our washing machine if in need. However, we have no dryer and washing will have to dry on a rack inside the flat.
We know how important it is to be private when you want to, and how relieving it is to be connected locally if you feel a bit lost. So we will leave it up to you to make contact (apart from the friendly hello's on the way).
As long as you know that we not awkward and really quite happy to have a chat and help you out when needed. We grow our own organic vegetables on a plot of land nearby, and when in season, are happy to sell you some... So ask if you are interested.
I am an experienced massage practitioner, working in the detox business, and if you fancy a treatment, we may be able to arrange one during your stay if I am available, at a cost.
I also provide non predictive astrology readings which may give you a broader view of, and more self love for your life and circumstances. No Mystic Meg, more psychological astrology, but compassionate and supportive. Again, available at a cost. Just ask.
During the summer months we may be absent for most of your stay, as we stay on our land a lot to tend our vegetables. We will always leave you with a phone number and can be with you with half an hour's notice if needed.
In Totnes we care a lot about recycling, and we ask you to collaborate with the separation of compost, glass, plastic and paper/cardboard. There is a small metal compost caddy up in the flat.
No visitors in the flat after 10.30 pm, and quietness from then on (No loud music, loud conversations or other intrusive actions).
Shoes off by the door downstairs please, especially if wet or muddy.
The top hob on the baby belling in the kitchen cannot be used for safety reasons. Please use the hob in the work surface.
The sofa was freshly re-upholstered in a fabric that is not stain proof, so please take great care not to spill food or drink on the covers.
Originally from Belgium, my life has taken me many places, before finally settling in Totnes, where i have lived for the past 13 years with my partner Matthew.
We have a passion for natural living and permaculture, and we grow many of our own vegetables.
