10/10 would recommend.
Taka's place is not too far from kitahiroshima station but I wouldn't want to walk it. Also, the location of the house makes it very secluded and nature-y. That being said, when it's hot, there may be a few bugs (a moth or two, nothing really bad).
Taka picked us up at the station to ride the bus together (which is very nice since we don't speak/read Japanese). He speaks English very well and is all around a nice guy.
The first day, he did Japanese barbecue for us which was fun and delicious. He also recommended a great local onsen (local is great because less crowded, and this one was cheap and a natural spring). The most important part of this recommendation was that they allowed my brother with a tattoo to go in (technically we didn't ask, but other onsens rejected him at the door). This one let us in twice.
Second day, he showed us around the city and introduced us to the best ramen we'd ever had. There was about an hour wait but definitely worth it.
You get far more than just a place to stay. Taka seems to like hosting to meet people so if you're friendly people and if this sounds like your type of experience, definitely book. At first I hesitated in booking because of the location but I am glad I followed through.
Thanks again, Taka!
