Private entrance off back deck with self check in is what many of our guests like. They feel this is less intrusive way to come and go with sense of autonomy.
I can help you get the most out of the secrets of Knoxville and the Smokies that most tourists don't see.
Enjoy your time away from home in this eclectic rancher painted in Mediterranean accents of bright yellow, tranquil turquoise and cobalt sea blue of this happy house! Sleep on a highly rated and reviewed new mattress in a room with antique bedroom furniture! The Casteel Branch house is located beside a creek called the Casteel Branch in the foothills of the Smokies.
Your guest room has a private keyed entrance from the deck. You will enjoy a new highly rated mattress (both in reviews and from our guests). The room is furnished with an antique bedroom suite with a full size bed. A closet is available to you as well as a vintage luggage stand. The full bath is adjacent to your room right outside the hallway. Please communicate any needs you may have in order for me to best accommodate you.
The house is full of art - originals, artists proofs, and prints - from Jim Gray, Mitchel Tolle, Marble City Glassworks, McKenzie Child's, Norman Rockwell, The License Plate man (Steve Russell), Vintage French travel posters from train stations, original art from friends and family. I love books, art and people!!! I have met some fantastic people through traveling Air BnB network! I hope to enhance this alternative and organic way of travel by welcoming you to our humble abode.
"Traveling leaves you speechless, then turns you into a storyteller." ~ IBN BATTUTA
Please stay a while and swap stories before you journey on through life.
Private spaces: You have a private entrance with key to your room. It would be most convenient for you to park between the house and separate detached garage. You can access your room from deck (small stone steps and a small rise of wooden stairs to access. Sorry my house is not handicap accessible.). Enjoy the deck, basketball goal, creek, outdoor shower in warm months, front porch, and yard (just be aware crawdad holes are throughout yard). You can enjoy the parlor with plenty of comfortable couches, and chairs. Wi-fi available. And we have a grand piano and upright piano --- play them! You may walk through art studio and kitchen.
Downstairs is a private and separate apartment with occasional air bnb guests who have exclusive parking rights to the lower level concrete slab parking space and lower patio. The homeowner's master suite is on the same level as your guest room. An artist studio has been converted from dining room - so there is little room for dining. An artist usually works from the studio a few days a week and I work from home occasionally. Our kitchen is very small - there should be no meal preparation or cooking of any kind permitted. Though coffee and tea are available every morning in the kitchen. No laundry room available to guests. Please be respectful and understanding of others staying at our home - and enjoy your stay.
"Perhaps travel cannot prevent bigotry, but by demonstrating that all peoples cry, laugh, eat, worry, and die, it can introduce the idea that if we try and understand each other, we may even become friends." - Maya Angelou
We provide our guests with as much privacy as they desire.
Contingent on my availability, you might want to add on a daybreak or sunset kayaking excursion on Fort Loudon Lake at the headwaters of the Tennessee River (flat water lake kayaking) - put in is 3 minutes from our home. There are bluffs where sightings of bald eagles are seen frequently and otter, turtles, and fish jumping out of water! Inquire about all sorts of great outdoor activities ~ check out my guidebook for guests on this app!

Our 2 cats say no other pets can stay here . We agree, the two cats live indoors. If you have allergies, we recommend you stay at another air bnb. Outside we have crawdads, minnows, frogs, lizards, turtles, snakes, Eagles (rare sighting), hawks, blue herons, blue birds, skunks, Grey fox, raccoons, opossum, coyotes, and occasionally black bears. So your animals need to stay home - we have enough wild things here already. If you violate our strict pet policy, you will be held responsible for any damage to our home.

I do have a grinder sewage pump that could clog or have motor issues if the following are placed down any drain or toilet:
grease, ashes, disposable wet wipes, cigarette butts, clothes dryer sheets, condoms, latex gloves, cotton swabs (q-tips), dental floss, diapers, paper towels, panty liners, plastic bags, sanitary napkins, tampons, or any other solid, semi-solid objects. Pump replacement runs between 4000 and 5000 dollars. I just had a new one installed August 2017. Please help me keep this one working. Thank you!
Guest(s) hereby agree to indemnify and hold harmless Victoria Kay against any liability resulting from injury that may occur at my residence.
Cancellations will be handled as per the Air BnB cancellation policy.
If you break or damage something - or notice something needing repair --- please let me know so I can arrange for repair or replacement.
If you make a reservation with a host who asks for a security deposit, you won’t be charged on the deposit unless a host makes a successful claim against the deposit after your trip. This would only be for lost key ($50) or damages assessed and reported to Air BnBb before my next guest checks in.
Please communicate your needs to us do that we can assist you being more comfortably during your stay.
I love traveling, collecting books, taking pictures, listening to stories, meeting new people, and going on adventures!
I first became acquainted with Air BnB when I was invited to speak in Washington DC on communities and social media. I rented an apartment near Eastern Market and stayed a week with my teenage son and his best friend. I told them we were going to wear out two things that week ~ our metro passes and our tennis shoes. We did! Fabulous time!
I was hooked! I got to meet neighbors, get inside recommendations on the area, etc. I loved becoming immersed in the culture!
When I began treatments for my hearing loss - my boyfriend and I started booking Air Bnbs up and down the coast to and from Knoxville to Jacksonville Florida. We met the most interesting people, neighbors, and communities! We stayed in all kinds of homes, a castle, a yacht - and had a blast! It is a great way to travel on a shoestring budget! My Mayo Clinic doctor's and attendants were all checking out the app as they heard of our most excellent adventures on my path to recovery and restoration. With a prosthetic inner ear joint ~ I went from 75% hearing loss to 4% hearing loss! I am a bionic woman!
I decided to open our artsy eclectic home for travelers from all over the world. We worked hard at giving this 1960's rancher a touch of character and some TLC. Come and stay at the Casteel Branch House (named after creek beside our house) in the town where we call home. It is a great place!
I am a mother of 4 children whom I homeschooled for 10 years before placing in public school. They are now grown and on their own journeys. I am a former Knox County Commissioner (first of 10 women ever to serve in the capacity in the history of Knoxville, TN), Certified TN teacher K-12, 6 hours logged in my pilot log book, avid reader, fantastic networker, artist, writer, traveler, and Information Science Director at Agilaire/a scientific data management company. I have flown in a UH-1N Huey, fired a Tommy machine gun in the Knox County Sheriff's Citizen Academy, served on the Knox County Public Library Advisory Board, and won Volunteer of the Year Award in Blount County 4-H. My life was recently impacted and saved by The Artist Way workshop lead by my mentor Carole Ann Borges/ author of Dreamseeker's Daughter: A nautical memoir about an eccentric family living aboard an old schooner boat on the Mississippi River and Gulf Coast in the 1950s. I am deeply connected with the art community in Knoxville.
I have most enjoyed being an Air Bnb host where my guests bring a cosmopolitan flair to my East Tennessee home where I have lived since 2000. As an empty nester, I have enjoyed the constant flow of travelers that have shared their journey with me. Take a while here with the creative vibe, spend time by the babbling brook, sit by a bonfire, inquire about a therapeutic painting session in the art studio. Rest easy and recover... welcome to my yellow happy house! Stay a while - let us swap some tales. Enjoy your stay. And y'all come back sometime. Carpe Diem!
