This twin-bed bamboo cottage is an excellent base for accessing all the highlights of Kerala while enjoying a relaxed stay by the beach with fisherman village atmosphere. Each cottage has a bedroom with mosquito net and fan, and private bathroom. Two extra mattresses are available in the cottage for children. Guests can use the shared kitchen at the cottages.
Relax in comfort on your own private veranda or hammock just steps away from Marari Beach. The shared kitchen is available for those who want to self-cater or alternatively walk up the road to Sebastian's homestay for delicious home-cooked meals.
Entire property. Guests can also access the grounds of the cottages (surrounded by a wall with gate so safe for children).
We will be with guests in person in the mornings and evenings only, but we will always be available to help on your prior request / phone call. This cottage is situated just 500 metres away from our home so we are within easy reach if required.
If ordered in advance, we serve the delicious, traditional cuisine of Kerala such as Paal Appam (coconut milk fritters), Puttu (steamed rice powder) and Kadala curry (Chana Daal curry), Kappa (tapioca) etc.
Try the local backwater transport experience, or a shorter trip across Vembanad Lake which has a more varied landscape than the Alleppey cruise (operating daily from August to March and every second day at other times). Generally, there are two stops: a 13:00 lunch stop and a brief afternoon chai stop. The crew has an ice box full of fruit, soft drinks and beer to sell. Take sunscreen and a hat. It's a scenic and leisurely way to get between the two towns, but as a backwater experience the cruise is the better option.
The houseboats of Kerala are a new addition to the travel and tourism of the state's backwaters. These craft, measuring up to 120 feet in length, were once the traditional cargo vessels of the area. They ruled the backwaters, poled along by one or two men, heavily loaded with rice, coconut and other commodities. In recent times, these big vessels have been replaced by more modern modes of transport, relegating them to neglect and decay. Now restored to their former glory, they provide a comfortable and relaxing way to tour the region.
Techniques for catching fish include hand gathering, spearing, netting. The fishermen sell their catch every morning on Marari beach.
