This historic three level house is approximately 3,000 square feet (279 square meters), and has two kitchens, four bedrooms, four bathrooms, and private garden. The house will sleep up to eight people. All rooms have a full private bathroom. All rooms have windows.
Contignano is a medieval hilltop village with roots going back to Roman times. One can see the main castle tower, ancient small church, and balconies built into the wall with beautiful views of the countryside. This historic residence was totally renovated and furnished with original antiques. The main part of the house consist of a medieval watch tower built around 1250 AD.
The top floor has three bedrooms, each with a bed that sleeps two and each with a private bath.
The main floor has a foyer, living room, dining room, and kitchen equipped with all modern appliances.
The lower floor opens onto a private garden and has it's own large dining / living area, a small second kitchen, a bedroom with two beds, and a bathroom. The private patio in the back garden is ideal for outside dining.
The house has all modern appliances and internet service.
Amenities in the castle/village include spectacular communal swimming pool, about 150 yards away from the house open during summer months. There is a full bar with some snacks, and a spectacular view of the Valdorcia where one can see for miles.
There is a grocery/convenience store, pharmacy, pub, and restaurants in town.
The entire house is for rent, and guests will have access to all three floors, and garden, as well as the community pool (which charges an entrance fee).
There are two entrances to the property, one on the street and one through the private garden on the lower floor.
Some local friends that help manage the property will be available throughout your stay. They are very friendly and if desired, they will come onsite to prepare an excellent meal for you and your guests.
The area is famous for its wines such as Brunello and Nobile, and for the best pecorino cheese. There re are excellent restaurants and an abundance shopping facilities.
Contignano, is best known for the reenactment of the Betlehem Nativity during the Christmas holidays and for the Ravioli Festival that takes place in mid August.
The famous hot springs and spas of Chianciano are 15 minutes away and Bagno Vignoni are 20 minutes away.
You may climb Mt. Amiata, a graceful sloping volcano that dominates the landscape. There are local ski slopes as well that operate in the winter.
The region has been awarded the orange flag for it's air purity.
