A traditional earth and juniper log Navajo Hogan immersed in nature here at our ranch on the Navajo nation. Earthen floor. Heated by wood burning stove.

ที่พัก

A traditional Navajo earth and cedar log Hogan set in the outstanding natural beauty of our ranch. To the Navajo a Hogan is first and foremost the traditional dwelling - a home. But, it is also the center of Navajo ceremonial activity. It is a place of quiet positivity. A lovely place to rest and experience life, if for a brief stay.

Shash Dine' Eco-Retreat: A Glamping B&B.

Yá'át'ééh (Hello in Navajo). We are a Native American owned large acreage working sheep ranch and off grid B&B offering guests a unique stay at our ranch utilizing quality canvas bell tents, covered wagons, a cabin, and traditional Hogans on the Navajo Nation. In all there are 7 accommodations. Nicely spaced in a general area.

The Accommodation:
The Hogan is a traditional Navajo dwelling. First and foremost a home, a traditional Navajo Hogan is also the center of Navajo ceremonial activity. It is considered sacred. A stay here is an experience. This experience will offer one an insight as to how the Navajo lived not terribly long ago. Please be respectful of this. NO ALCOHOL is allowed inside the Hogan. Nor smoking. It is a place of quiet positivity. A lovely place to rest and experience life, if for a brief while as the Navajo did. Again, it is an experience. An interaction with Navajo culture. A place of learning. It is not the Marriot. It is not a five star hotel. It is a five billion star in the sky hotel.

The accommodation is well appointed. Outfitted with the basic necessities one will need for a pleasant stay - All bedding, linens, wool blankets and sleeping bags for good measure. Candles, candle lanterns, a flashlight, and a solar light. Books, games, snacks, juice, and water. You'll also find amenities such as soap, shampoo, toothpaste, tooth brush, and sanitary wipes in your accommodation.

The Climate:
We are medium to high desert - warmer or strong sun days and cooler to cold nights. Our ranch is at elevation 5500'. Please bring the appropriate clothing for the environment and climate at this time of year. Please check weather reports. We suggest clothing layers, closed toed shoes, hats, sunglasses, sunscreen, and plenty of water to stay hydrated.

The Toilet Facilities:
There are several well serviced, well maintained, and clean outhouses/portapotties on the property.

The Way to Bathe:
Shash Dine' respects that water is a precious commodity in the desert. For your comfort, bathing water is provided in a container that is heated by the sun. There is a private "camp shower." Amenities of shampoo, soap, etc., will be available in your accommodation. ***Please bring your own towel as we do not provide one for you.*** Note: There is NO running water on the Navajo nation.

This stay is very minimalist. One will be immersed in nature. Set in outstanding natural beauty.

The Breakfast, Cooking Here, and Area Restaurants:
We provide a traditional Dine' breakfast of blue corn porridge and a fruit medley with nuts and your choice of coffee or Navajo Tea. All other meals can be sourced in town at the numerous restaurants. Cooking can also be done over open fire here at the outdoor fire pit. There is a grill for the open fire. All other Foodstuff and supplies can be purchased at Safeway or Wal-Mart in Page. Small wood bundles of firewood or charcoal to cook can be purchased at any outlet in the town of Page.

Again, we thank you for your interest in Shash Dinè Eco-Retreat.

The Directions:
Detailed directions will be set in email. On the day of your arrival please call or email us regarding your approximate arrival time. We require guests to arrive during daylight hours to get settled in and oriented (before 7PM MST). Upon Arrival Check In At Our House. We are an off grid (no electricity/no running water) working sheep ranch and b&b.

Our ranch is 12 miles south of Page, AZ on the HWY 89, 1/4 mile east on Navajo RT 6211. Please refer to our detailed driving directions. It is best to NOT rely solely upon GPS as they've been wrong in the past and have sent guests widely off the mark.

We look forward to hosting you,

Paul and Baya Meehan
Shash Dine' EcoRetreat

Guests are free to walk the ranch. There are numerous points with remarkable views. Additionally guests may visit our sheep pen, horse corrals, and interact with our working dogs. We've 7 working livestock guardian dogs on site. The Great Pyrenees and Maremma Sheepdog. All are friendly and highly trained. They will be curious of you and will keep you company at the fire. Our dogs are not allowed in any of the accommodations.

We greet guests and give them a bio of the land, people, and accommodations as we check them in. We then tend to give guests privacy. However, we are on property and will certainly welcome questions guests have about the Navajo people and culture, sheep, ranch, and area attractions. Usually you'll find us at the sheep pens and horse corrals.

We are a working ranch and B&B on the Navajo Nation. We are close to all area attractions.

We are 12 miles south of Page, AZ. 1/4 mile off the HWY 89. All vehicle types can access our ranch. Must have own vehicle.

Our ranch is a great base camp to launch excursions to Lake Powell, Antelope Canyon, the Grand Canyon, Monument Valley, hiking, and all area attractions.

Our B&B is immersed in nature. We cannot control nature - weather, insects, creatures. The Hogan is made of cedar and earth. It may leak. There is little to worry about, however.

We provide a traditional Navajo breakfast. It is a blue corn mush, fresh fruit plate, and ranch coffee or Navajo tea (sourced from the land). We serve this to you at your accommodation at 8am (MST). If you are to leave early we can provide To-Go coffee and fruit. Just inform us of this and stop by our home prior to leaving.

All other meals can be sourced in the town of Page. There are numerous restaurants. Or you can buy foodstuff, wood bundles, and supplies to cook out over an open fire here at the fire pit.

We require guests to check in during daylight hours, before 7pm (MST).

All vehicle types can access our ranch. Even motorcycles.

There is absolutely NO SMOKING here. Nor is alcohol welcome. We do not allow pets. Please be respectful of other guests. Well behave children are always welcome.

There is no running water on many parts of the Navajo nation including ours. In fact many areas do not have electricity. We provide bathing water in containers at an outdoor "camp shower." Most Navajo have to water haul - a process where a large tank is placed in a truck and driven to a water station many, many miles away to be filled and brought back. Once back it is pumped into a large tank. Additionally the US southwest is in drought conditions. It is our aim to educate our guests of Navajo life and the importance of water conservation. Please note: We do not provide towels.

We decided to stay in the earthen Hogan on our honeymoon road trip to the Southwest. That was a wonderful experience! The building is sturdy and cozy, and the history Paul gave was very interesting. The view from the ridge beyond the site was spectacular, and the night sky alone was worth stopping here! In the clear night we could see the Milky Way as we sat by the campfire. The ranch dogs were so very friendly and we loved having them hang around the campfire with us for awhile! Stop in and visit this unique place; you won't regret it!

Baya and Paul were extremely helpful on arrival and the views from the top of their Navajo land after a short walk are simply breathtaking. The traditional hogan was exactly as described and a pleasant experience we won't forget. The traditional breakfast delivered to the hogan by Baya was amazing. We would highly recommend this experience to anyone looking to enjoy a traditional experience. The town of Paige was only a short drive from the property and has everything one could need. The swimming location Paul suggested was fantastic and the kids loved it. Thanks guy's for your wonderful hospitality. Troy, Sue & kids

We had an incredible time staying with Baya and Paul! The hogan was exactly, if not better than expected! It was clean, well kept, and comfortable. Directions to their place were clear and it was easy to find. The view from their land was beautiful and relaxing, breakfast in the morning was delicious and it was great talking with Baya! Will definitely stay again if we are in the area!
