This was a unique place to stay. The small apartment is on the ground level in a large old rural home which Jose is renovating. The apartment is small, but has a kitchen, living area, and bedroom. Jose kindly stocked the kitchen with food for breakfast.
Expect "country cabin", not modern apartment. The furnishings are minimal but enough for 2 people. No closet, but some pegs on the back of the bedroom and bathroom doors. I think it would be cold in winter. There is a small wood burning heating stove in the kitchen, and an electric radiator that can be moved between the bedroom and the living area. There is no heater in the bathroom. No A/C either, but the old stone walls probably keep the place pretty cool even in summer.
The best part is being surrounded by groves of cork trees on an old Portugal homestead. There is even a picturesque private church! The land has been in Jose's family for 5 generations and his home to Jose and some of his brothers. The place is very close to Evora, maybe 5 minutes away by car.
I'm very glad we stayed here, met Jose, and saw a little of Portugal's countryside close up.
