Studio Apartment In Carriage House with full amenities on secluded and historic 5 acre property. Easy access the Shenandoah Mountains, vineyards, breweries, Charlottesville and Culpeper. Quiet, secluded 1903 Farmhouse property on 5 acres of meadows, woods and creeks is yours to explore or just relax on your own deck next to the hot tub and seasonal pool. Please read House Rules PRIOR to booking!
Our property is at the end of a quiet country road near the historic town of Madison. The carriage house studio apartment is clean, private and well appointed (full kitchen/bath/laundry). Your stay included access to the hot tub (4 people at a time only!) and seasonal pool. Our unique setting on a grassy sloped hill, surrounded by woods, next to a hidden, bubbling brook, makes you feel far away from the hustle and bustle. Bring your (well behaved) dogs and let them run!
Bed: The top of the line Bassett sofa opens to a hybrid air/spring Queen mattress (Bassett "AirDream" line). Don't call this a sofa bed! This may be the most comfortable mattress you've ever slept on! Soft cotton sheets and thick duvet cover are provided. Sweet dreams!
The property has everything from a seasonal pool and 4-season hot tub to quiet spots by the creek. The fire pit is great as the evenings cool to sit around with a drink. A private gas grill is available for use at the deck above the pool.
Locally, we are only 2 miles from downtown Madison. Though not too bustling, there are a few decent restaurants in Madison including the mountaineer cafe (Diner - breakfast/lunch), Madison inn (highly recommended dinner), pig n steak (BBQ - lunch, dinner) and pie in the sky (pizza). Just a few more miles south is the world famous Yoders (a must see) and further down Rt 29 is The Bavarian Chef, a German favorite. And of course a McDonald's.
Its just a short distance from the house (~3 miles) and just south of Madison on Rt 29 to a grocery store (Food Lion) and liquor store. And the 7-eleven is just out on Rt 29 to the left.
We live in the adjacent farmhouse and are available to assist with making your stay enjoyable. We love getting to know guests and often meet up by the fire pit for some smores and mulled wine but respect those that want a more private experience.
Also, there is an Airbnb space above the Studio (the Apartment) so while that is occupied we do ask that people be respectful each other when it comes to excessive TV/music/conversation volume, etc. and keep with the quiet retreat theme that we have for the property. We rarely have complaints, but its important to know that the Carriage House has two spaces. If there are any issues, we ask that you let us know immediately!
Need advice on restaurants, local vineyards, breweries, hiking trails and off the beaten path places of interest? Just ask...
Please note: There is high speed internet, but like many people in rural areas we deal with satellite internet and limited data, so we just ask that people not stream video. The trade offs for country living.

-Please make an effort to keep pets off the furniture.
-Pets should be caged if left on the property but please be aware of barking that may cause a disturbance.

The fire pit is available for use. We will typically have some wood available (under balcony stairway) but wood can be purchased at various locations around town (food lion, yoders, etc.)
Gas grill available - just make sure to turn off gas at canister after use.
Per the description, please be aware others may be occupying the upper portion of the Carriage House at the same time.
All of the property is yours to explore! Have fun and relax!
After spending more than 22 years abroad, Athea settled in the Charlottesville area, sight unseen. I love this area. The mountains make me happy. It's rich with history and tradition. Over the years I have hosted friends and family in my home. I love to share my experiences with people and hope that through that I am enhancing their lives just a little more.
