The scenery in and around Kempton is beautiful. Hikers will enjoy the well marked trails at Hawk Mountain Bird Sanctuary, the Appalachian Trail access is also quite nearby, as is the trail around Leaser Lake and we are very fortunate to have trail rides just walking distance away at neighboring Another Way Farm.
There are occasional antique auctions and music events at the Kempton Community Center, and train rides at WK&S Railroad and everyday is a good day for a visit to Wanamaker's General Store, where you can step back in time and pick up anything from deli sandwiches to groceries to handcrafted items by local artisans and right next door is a canoe, kayak and wind surfing rental business (Leaser Lake is near by).
There are at least three restaurants within ten minutes and we are within 40 minutes of Allentown and Reading.
Other than an Uber driver, there is no public transportation in Kempton however buses to and from NYC and Philly are just 25 minutes away in Kutztown, Hamburg and farther afield in Allentown, Bethlehem and Reading.
When available we may be able to assist with transportation to and from the AT and Kutztown, just ask us.
As this is our main income stream, please note that we much prefer to book 3 day minimum stays on holiday weekends. We do still encourage you to inquire after 2 nights with the understanding that may be why we may decline your inquiry. We offer even further generous discounts for one month and longer rentals. Please message us your needs and we will work out the rental fee with you accordingly.
The house is in a rural area. You may like to bring along a camera and binoculars as it is quite likely that you will catch a glimpse of more than a few deer or turkeys as well as other wildlife.
The trampoline, attic storage rooms, basement, out buildings and barn house are off limits, (that is, unless you are renting the barn house as well). If you are curious about our projects, we would gladly give you a tour. The horse barn has been converted into a guest house, although occasionally also available on Airbnb, this is where we live while caring for Erika's mom. John is in the process of building out the basement of the barn into a studio and recreation room.
As stated earlier, we provide care for Erika's mother and have been living with her in the converted barn on this property however, just ask if you want to know what are plans are for the time you are here.
We will always (24/7) be available by Airbnb messaging, phone or email and are happy to answer any questions.

When your rental fee includes the guest suite (or second master) on third floor of our house, you may like to bring a baby monitor along if you are hoping to have your children nap there during the day. We have a convertible crib/toddler daybed and a pack and play we can supply so that two children may comfortably stay with parents in the suite without an additional person charge.
We provide a reasonable amount of fire wood for campfire use.
Trash pickup is on Tuesday mornings. Please take all trash to the parking lot across New Bethel Church Rd on Monday evening. If you miss trash pickup we ask you to dispose of you trash at your home.
IF YOU NEED LESS SPACE: The guest house, "Hawk Mt Area Converted Barn" accommodates 4 and is sometimes offered separately on AIRBNB.

- We may be away during your stay and only available by phone or email or possibly in our guest house and available to assist you directly. We occasionally enjoy a glass or two of wine or a couple of beers in the evening but never indulge to the point of regretful behavior.
- Our bathroom waste is processed by an on site septic system. Please do not flush any plastics, baby wipes or feminine hygiene products.
- It is our hope that the memories of your stay in Kempton will be good ones and our memories of hosting you the same, other than that no smoking and no pets without our approval.

We are a family and service oriented married couple going on 34 years of marriage. We have three children and four grandchildren. We are active with our extended family and love our church community.
Having retired earlier from a 30 year engineering career, John recently entered his second retirement, this time from teaching math at our church's school. I continue my career as wife and mother and recently have added grandmother to my resume'.
John and I are serious about our projects as you may see as there is usually something happening around here, (we pause for guests).
John and I enjoy traveling but there is no place like home. Since having young marrieds in our family, our motto has become, "have tools, will travel".
Airbnb has given us another opportunity for meeting people. As you can see from our reviews, we host in both Berks and Wayne County.
Your rental fee helps us to maintain, continue with restoration, and improve our buildings while allowing the flexibility we need to care for Erika's octogenarian mother.
We will strive to be welcoming and accommodating to you.
