Scenic Distilleries, horse country, near Woodford Reserve, Kentucky Horse Park, Keeneland, Lexington, Versailles, Ky State Capitol in Frankfort, and more!! Newly restored, charming and modern cottage designed around historic 1812 log cabin on a scenic 450 acre farm along the Kentucky River. Serene, private, in the heart of the Bourbon Trail (near Woodford, Castle and Key, Wild Turkey, Buffalo Trace). Hike and fish, llamas, alpacas, sheep, chickens, peacocks, horses, wildlife. Intro price!

Seldom Scene Farm is a uniquely beautiful place, and the cottage is an amazing one-of-a-kind space, set across from the sheep pasture with views of the Kentucky River hills! Surprises await as you enter through the hand-crafted door, made from rich heart pine, sourced from the cabin's original walls and floors. Come into a light-filled, cathedral-like entry with gorgeous original hand-hewn log walls which continue into the spacious 1100 sq. feet of living area, bedrooms and bath. Our guests are all loving the soothing space as well as the outdoor beauty, and most have said it has exceeded their expectations and they wished they'd planned to stay longer!

Amenities include wifi, A/C, original contemporary folk art paintings, photography and fiber art by the owner, reclaimed heart pine cabinetry, quartz and copper kitchen counters in new fully-equipped kitchen (range, dishwasher, refrigerator, microwave), on-demand "instant" hot water, roomy bathroom with heated floors and tiled shower, spring water, queen memory foam beds (air mattress or couch available for up to 2 additional guests for a total of 6), TV with Dish Network, Apple TV, keyless entry, fireplace, washer/dryer, patio with seating and fire ring nearby. Wonderful for families, two couples, or a small group.

The cottage is all on one level, with the exception of one of the bedrooms, which has one step up into it and two small steps from the room down into the bathroom.

We have owned the property for 30 years, the second owners since it was originally deeded to the Watts family in the Virginia Land Grant. The cottage has just gone through a year-long renovation/reconstruction by a master carpenter who specializes in historic properties. One room of the original cabin (making up one of the bedrooms) has been dated to the early 1800's! The previous owner was pictured here at the farm in the May, 1974 issue of National Geographic in a feature on the Bluegrass Region (you can see it in the cottage, in the album about the history/renovation). Most of the farm is wooded and left natural for wildlife (deer, wild turkeys, songbirds, foxes, coyotes, owls, wood ducks, bobcats, raccoons), and we have several conservation projects with native grasses and wildflowers.

We raised the largest herd of champion alpacas in Kentucky for over 20 years, but now keep just a few "pet" alpacas and llamas, peacocks, three Rocky Mountain horses, chickens for eggs and a flock of 20 longwool sheep (from which Lindy sources much of the wool for her fiber art). Several friendly dogs and a sweet barn cat live here, too.

The kitchen is fully-equipped and cooking-friendly, with pots and pans, toaster, blender, microwave, cooking oils and spices. It is also stocked with coffee, tea, cream, sugar, snacks, sodas, and condiments.

We enjoy sharing the beauty of the farm and Central Kentucky with others, and are proud and excited about the preservation and rebirth of the original cabin.

You may access the entire 450 acres, including the pond, dock and river for fishing (at your own risk and license is necessary at the river). We have four fishing poles available for your use! Hike on our trails, visit with the animals, feed the chickens, etc. Please do not enter barns or paddocks without being accompanied by the hosts. We have some very friendly sheep (especially Jeffrey, Percy, and Mikey- all bottle-fed as lambs), curious llamas, Finn and Tinkerbelle, that stay with the sheep in the pasture right by the cottage or down the hill.

We interact as much or as little as you like and depending on our availability (our private home is 1/4 mile from the cottage). We are quick to respond at all times via phone, text or email, or will welcome you at the cottage if you would like. We provide local travel guides, and are happy to recommend restaurants, scenic roads, or just talk about the farm and area....
Lindy is an artist and photographer and occasionally teaches classes in fiber arts (dyeing, leaf printing on silk, felting, etc.). Class schedule available upon request or I can plan a custom class for you for an additional charge-just ask. Paul and Lindy are both private and social. We are nature-lovers, foodies, boaters, scuba divers and snorkelers.

Our electric gate is closed on the weekend and at night. You will be provided with a gate code, as well as a code for the cottage door, with lighted keyless entry. There is plenty of parking in front of the cottage for two cars. Let us know if we can pick up groceries for you (if we are available); the Versailles Kroger has on-line ordering and pre-payment available.
Our house dogs live with us, and you probably won't even see them unless they're on a walk or riding around with us. We have one friendly barn cat.

Wow!! This cottage is simply amazing and the perfect location for the Kentucky Burboun Trail! We didn't even want to leave the cottage because of how beautiful it was so we actually stayed in both nights to cook. The animals (sheep, llama, peacocks, and chickens) are directly outside the front door and the Llama (Tinkerbell) is so friendly that we wanted to take her home :) what a great getaway spot and very relaxing! We will definitely want to return in the future! Thanks Paul and Lindy!

What a stunning, clean, comfortable, and well-designed cottage in a beautiful setting. Absolutely perfect. Better than the photos. Our stress level fell from 11 to 0 the minute we arrived.

Seldom Scene Farm exceeded all expectations! Pictures really do not do it justice. Paul and Lindy are the perfect hosts. They are gracious, warm and kind. They offered wonderful guidance, when asked, and steered us to great dining and sightseeing. The natural beauty and peace that permeates the property is beyond compare.

I'm an artist and photographer, wife, mother, grandmother, ex-teacher, equestrian, nature-lover and scuba diver. I'm a foodie who loves to cook and read food blogs. Travel is one of my favorite things- from camping to cruises (sailboat or ship), foreign and domestic, I am game for all of it! I love to go trail riding on my horse with friends and experience the beauty of Red River Gorge. l treasure my friends and meeting interesting people from all over! My husband Paul enjoys these things, too (plus motorcycles and flying an ultralite).
