Hello my name is Mayumi Noji and I life in ICHIE Guest House. Located in a traditional Japanese house. The house is over 70 years old and has a lot of traditional features like cedar wooden structures, paper-screen walls and doors and Tatami flooring. You will sleep just like in a ryokan. One room in the house is exclusively reserved for guests. Out looking on the small patio with garden.
Facilities like the bathroom and toilet are shared with me.
The room has 5futon(a set of futon placed on tatami mats)
The room has air conditioning, free wifi and a closet to hang your clothes.
The front of the house is a small cafe where you can eat my home made chiffon cakes - freshly made every day! These cakes are included with the room as breakfast. There's also a massage room. I'm a masseuse so check with me prior to arriving if you want to make an appointment for a pressure massage.
Getting there is easy. Walking from Kii Tanabe Station takes 15 minutes and you just have to follow the main road to the beach. Across the shrine you take a left. You can see the 'ICHIE Guest House' sign from the main road.
The house is located in a quiet neighbourhood. It's very close to the beach - about 3 minutes walking distance. There's also a 24-hour Lawson convenient store in 5 minutes walking distance.
If you want to get away from the busy Shirahama beaches (July and August) Tanabe is just one train stop away. You can also take a night to rest before getting on the early (6.30) bus to Kumano Kodō trail. Tanabe is a small, quiet town with friendly people and everything, like shops, sights and eateries, are all in walking distance.
For many travelers Tanabe is the starting point for the Kumano Kodō trail. You can simply take the bus at Kii Tanabe Station to Hongū Taisha Mae (2 hours for ¥2000).
Getting here by train means you can only take the bus around 11.00 as trains do not arrive earlier. Mind you; it's a tight transfer!
At Kii Tanabe Station is an excellent tourist information desk who can help you plan you trail tailored to your exact plans. They have many detailed maps on all parts of the trail and tips on accommodation, onsen, sights and routes. All depending on how many days you want to spend on your trail.
