COMFORT
The spacious design of our Mid-Century Modern home is great for family stays, reunions with friends and creative retreats . The wood paneled walls are adorned with original artwork, framed geological and hiking maps of the region, and a classical and acoustic guitar. The living and dining rooms are beautifully furnished with comfortable sofas and a large dining table that overlook the estuary and ocean. The bedrooms are furnished with comfortable beds, blankets, linens, & sheets. And the bathrooms are equipped with natural Icelandic soap, shampoo and towels. The kitchen is fully stocked with an array of spices, vinegar and oils. The pantry has some basics for late arrivals.

DESIGN
My home has been featured in Korea's In Style Magazine and has been filmed in numerous documentaries one of which was shown in the exhibition at Tales of Iceland in downtown Reykjavik.

NEARBY SITES
Drive in any direction and you shall encounter spectacular monumental nature. Head towards the west, to the marvels of the Snaefellsnes National Park, to the inspiration of Jules Verne's novel Journey to the Center of the Earth. The north of the peninsula is noted for exceptional whale watching tours by the small outfitters Laki. Kirkjufell is another legendary mountain famous for its appearance in the Game of Thrones. Another famed location is Stykkishólmur known as Greenland in the film The Secret Life of Walter Mitty. Then continue to the Breidafjordur nature reserve another UNESCO site . Drive south to Glymur and hike Iceland's second highest waterfall at 198 m. Then continue to the Golden Circle. East of Borgarnes is again another wild landscape and the source of our water. It is home to the Hraunfoss waterfall, the state-of-the-art geothermal Spa Krauma , the epic archives of Icelandic legends in Reykholt and the entrance to Into the Glacier.

Marvel pristine coastlines and visit quaint villages. Patient hikers may spot arctic foxes, falcons, and or seals. Hiking, geothermal hot pot hunting, horseback riding and golfing are great past times. During the fall, wintertime and springtime northern lights sweep through the skies.

Borgarnes Western Region ไอซ์แลนด์

Our town Borgarnes is an ideal home-base to explore in all directions. It has the luxury of a local geothermal swimming pool with hotpots, saunas and a Jacuzzi with epic views. Borgarnes is a quaint village with astonishingly exceptional cuisine and a historical presence that takes you back to the firsts Icelandic sagas.

Borgarnes boasts innovative and traditional cuisine at the The Settlement Center Restaurant and the English Mans Cove - Englendingavík. Both locations are unique for either their historical experiences or legendary views. The Geirabakari Kaffihus was the famed filming location of Papa Joe's in The Secret Life of Walter Mitty and also famous for their love purses - an Icelandic sweet cake. The Kaffi Kyrrð serves mouth watering home-made waffles in a quirky home cafe. Ljómalind Farmers Market has home made ice cream, fresh eggs and more local delights. La Colina is the only place to eat a real pizza.

The mysterious and continually changing Snæfellsnes peninsula flaunts the most diversity of anywhere in Iceland, with formations from nearly every epoch in Iceland's geological history. Patient hikers may spot arctic foxes, eagles or falcons. Seals, whales and dolphins can be spotted further up in the coast and are best seen with a tour.

1) WEST Driving around the Snæfelsjokull glacier. (the volcano mentioned in Jules Verne novel Journey to the Center of the Earth.) The road around the glaciers has many stops and short hikes. This is a full day trip. Hiking the glacier is a separate day trip. As is Whale watching with Laki Tours in Grundafjordur.

2) EAST Driving through the Reykjholt Valley, hiking Hestfjall and visiting the Stedje Brewery. Into the glacier Ice tour, Hotel Husafel fine dining, and the Cave tour at Víðgelmir. Or experience the highest flow hot spring luxury baths which open this fall - Krauma at the Deildartungahver. Visit the artist Pall Husafell known for his stone and drift wood instruments.

3) Hiking Glymur the highest waterfall in Europe.

Coastal drives, fishing, golfing, geothermal hot pot hunting and hiking are great past times. During the fall, wintertime and springtime NORTHERN LIGHTS sweep through the skies.

The Saga Route is a historical literary travel route that passes through Borgarnes.

I'm an artist and if I am not painting, teaching art, or exhibiting, chances are I am brushing up on language skills or baking up a new recipe. Otherwise I am on an endless journey, traveling and finding ways to do it better. Hosting is a fantastic means of having the travel experience while remaining in one place. Cultural exchange and the dynamic of visitors encountering monumental nature and creativity is an invaluable experience. I like both roles.

Upon arrival:
It's advisable to grocery shop close to Reykjavik or Keflavik. The stores may not offer the variety of produce you are accustomed to. Kronan and Víðir in Reykjavik have a larger selection than the grocery stores in Borgarnes. If you are a Costco member you can register for a temporary card and shop at their Icelandic store in Gardabaer. If you like to drink it is advised to purchase alcoholic beverages at the airport duty free store. Otherwise there is a Vinbudin store which sells alcohol.

Eating out reduces waste (plastic packaging) and supports the local economy (many restaurants use local produce). This year we have eliminated plastic sponges and brushes from our kitchen and introduced ecologically certified cleaning products.

We offer cable TV although so few people use it that we only connect it upon request. Please let us know before your arrival and we will connect it if you desire.
