Casuta Trifan (litterally "Trifan's small house/cottage") is a traditional Romanian house, built in 1850, made out of wood and cob. It is ideally located in a small village some 60 km from the city of Timisoara, in an area quite isolated, surrounded by nature and with lots of wildlife and opportunities to break from modern life.
It is a traditional home, with wooden walls covered in cob, with a wooden ceiling. We are currently doing restoring work, so availability is starting 4th September. There are three rooms and only one is ready for guests. Conditions inside are specific to traditional peasant life, with very little of the modern improvements: there is no running water (you need to get it from a well), no inside bathroom (toilet is outside, so is the shower), you have a small cooking space and a fridge. We chose not to provide a TV while phone signal is weak (it gets better if you walk up the hill). No Wifi, no internet, just you, the village and the nature. The house is cool in summer and warm in winter. The rest of the property is fairly big, with two vegetable gardens, an orchard and a vineyard.
You can get to the house using routes from Berzovia - Ramna or Buzias - Vermes - Valeapai. All roads to Valeapai are gravel roads, not in the best condition. You have enough parking space for two cars or a van. You will have access to all the property.
It is a vacation house and that means we are not there most of the time, but we do react when needed while for immediate needs you will have to address our neighbor. We will help you with your request as much as we can. Your booking will help us continue restoring and preserving a piece of authentic romanian village architecture and life.
In Valeapai time slows down for everyone! You will experience daily village life with little of the modern comfort but very rewarding if you want to disconnect. You will get your water from the well on the street, use the outside toilet and shower, make fire to cook your meals, get to know the villagers and their way of life. Besides walks and trips, you can get involved in gardening, woodwork, and any around-the-house activities you might enjoy doing. There are plenty of walking, trailing, biking, hiking opportunities in the surrounding mountains. During hot summer days you can swim in the river crossing the village. You can visit the castle's ruins, the old mill, the ghost town of Barbosu, the "Codru" (forests) and so on. The area is very rich in wildlife and especially many species of birds. You can assist or participate in restoring projects we will do on the property.
