Enjoyed one of the best holidays over 8 days at Praia da Rocha in December 2016. This is my second trip to the area, 10 years apart and Praia da Rocha is the kind of 1st class private holiday home development that was unheard of in the area 10 years ago.
The house was the perfect combination of comfort and luxury, coupled with amazing views and a private beach. Without going into detail it had every modern appliance that you could wish for in a beach house but most importantly an ice machine attached to filtered drinkable water. All rooms have mosquito nets and air conditioners.
Keanan, our host was amazing. He assisted us over the several months after we had booked the trip with travel advice, car bookings, shopping and activities but most importantly Keanan was able to assist us within 48 hours with an urgent application for a visa for a German friend traveling with us. The holiday would not have been the same without his extensive local knowledge and willingness to help with every request.
Please note that Praia da Rocha is a private estate +/- 10kms from Ihambane, south of Tofo.
A 4x4 is required for the last 10kms as you will be driving effectively on beach sand.
All restaurants, activities (scuba diving, snorkelling, whale shark trips etc.) are run out of Tofo and Barra to the north, with shopping in Inhambane or select shops (e.g. Yum Yum between the Praia da Rocha turnoff and Tofo) on the connecting roads between the 3 key locations in the area (Inhambane, Tofo and Barra).
Therefore a 4x4 is required and if you are flying, a 4x4 will need to be hired to enjoy the area which is a must.
The majority of vegetables, dry goods and drinks can be purchased in the area. Limited selection of red meat and sugar free cool drinks.
Recommend the Green Turtle in Barra for lunch and liquid dive adventures who successfully guided us to a whale shark.
