Povlja is a beautiful little place on the north-east side of the island of Brac in Middle Dalmatia located in largest cove of massive Povlja’s bay. It is really silent peaceful location, ideal for family vacation also offering domestic gastro offer (a few markets, restaurants and taverns). In our place You can find many facilities like diving, tennis and at night open clubs with Dalmatian music and in only 30 km far Bol and most beautiful beach Zlatni rat many other recreation and fun possibilities.
Apartments "Villa Arija" are also located in quietly quarter only 40 meters from sea, nice stone beach and but there are also other ones (small sized-stone) beach equally safe for children in Tičja luka bay and a few amazing ones towards 500 meter far Povlja. Povlja is situated just 8 km on the east from a ferry port Sumartin and 42 km on the west from main town and harbour of island Brac, Supetar. Our place, the harbour of Povlja and together with Luke on the west were the main anchorages for Roman ships. The remains of amphoras affirm such a hypothesis. During his past Povlja inhabitants occupy themselves with wine and olive growing and fishing until today time when the most important is tourism.
The remains of the biggest Christian Basilica on the island Brac are from the 5th or at latest the first part of the 6th century, which attracts the interest of many tourists, are nearby to the parish church in Povlja. Until today a true ground- plan with an atrium, portal, sanctuary, baptism-well and the late antique baptisterium with remains of freskas and kapitul have been preserved.
Povlja region with its many neighbour bays (Travna, Smokvica, Ticja luka, Tatinja) with different sorts of beaches is only smaller part of Brac, the largest Dalmatian and the third largest Adriatic island.
Highest peak of the island Brac , Vidova Gora (Vitus' Mount) (778 m) is also the highest peak of all Croatian islands from which you have perfect view to symbol of the island Zlatni rat in Bol, on the island's south side, one of the most beautiful and famous beaches in the entire Adriatic.
Brac is perfectly connected to the mainland by ferry lines from Split to Supetar and from Makarska to Sumartin. During the summer season, ferries on the line Split - Supetar drive during the day almost every hour, and the ride takes no more than 50 minutes, while Ferry line between Makarska and Sumartin are less frequently but also recommended for guests who intend to spend holidays on the eastern side of the island Brac and Povlja also planning to see Medjugorje or Dubrovnik.
There is also a smaller airport on Brac, located 14 km from Bol and 30 km from Povlja and open only during the summer season.
Brac quarries are the symbol of the island from there stone is taken out since the time of Roman rule until today. The stone from Brac is known for its quality and whiteness, and it was used to built some of the most important buildings, including the Cathedral in Sibenik even White house in Washington.
The interior of the island Brac today are engaged in cooperative cattle breeding and production of various products from sheep meat and milk. Brac is the most famous for specialty vitalac which consists of sheep intestines prepared on an open fire. Among the wines that are produced on the island, Bolski Plavac has a special place.
Our house is only 30 meters from sea ans cca 70 m from nice and safe stone beach (middle sized) but there are also other beaches e.g. 300 m far away in small bay (small sized-stone) beach equally safe for children.
Only half an hour by car you can reach the most famous beach in Adriatic sea called Golden cape (Zlatni rat) offering sunbathing and sailing possibilities. See details on (URL HIDDEN)
