Come savor a secluded escape in the green mountains. Park at our organic homestead, and enjoy a short hike up to your private mountainside retreat. This cozy cabin in the forest is the perfect spot to relax, slow down, and unwind. For adventure seekers, it is the ideal home base. Well maintained hiking trails surround the area. We are minutes from the Long Trail, renowned rock climbing, beautiful swimming holes, kayaking, fishing, golfing, mountain biking, skiing and snowboarding.
Our off the grid tiny house features a (seasonal) solar heated outdoor shower, outhouse, (seasonal) non-potable running water in the kitchen, a propane cook stove, and a wood stove to keep you warm on chilly nights. The wood stove is the only source of heat inside the cabin, so working knowledge of fire-starting is a must! We do not have refrigeration, but provide a cooler for use during your stay. In the cabin you will find plates, cups, bowls, utensils, simple cooking tools, a kettle, a saucepan, a frying pan, a roasting pan, a coffee grinder, a french press, a mixing bowl and a strainer. We also provide bedding and towels. A small farm share and fresh eggs may be available for purchase.
The cabin sits on a 20 acre lot that you are welcome to explore. We are adjacent to hundreds of acres of protected forestland. There is a garden and chicken coop on the lower part of the property that you are welcome to visit. Please refrain from picking veggies or collecting eggs without the host.
We will respect your privacy, but are often around to answer questions or assist with fire making. Meals at the main house may be an option.
The cabin is a short hike from the parking spot. Please be prepared to carry in your belongings and supplies. There is no electricity at the cabin. We have battery operated LED lights and lanterns available for your use. There is no wifi at the cabin. There is cell service through Verizon and AT&T. The only source of heat is the wood stove. I will provide firewood, but you should be able to start a fire on your own to stay here in the cooler months. The running water in the sink is not suitable for drinking. There is a spring on the way up to the cabin where you can fill your water bottles. We will provide a couple gallons of spring water to get you started. The shower is solar heated, which means the water temperature is dependent on the sun. In freezing temps or times of severe drought, there may not be running water. The solar collector for the shower is disconnected and drained for the winter when temps reach the 30s. The cabin is rustic and items provided are minimal. Please let me know if you have specific needs and I will do my best to accommodate.
No candles inside the cabin please.
Dogs must stay with owners at all times. You may not leave a dog unattended in the cabin. Dogsitting at our house may be an option. Dogs are not allowed in the loft. Dogs must be leashed or in voice control while up at the cabin. Dogs must be leashed when walking by our house, garden, and chicken coop. Please clean up after your dog, as many guests enjoy walking in the woods surrounding the cabin.
