Main floor of tranquil, rustic old Mennonite style farmhouse, overlooking spacious gardens, lawns and open fields. Quaint kitchen, large living room, two bedrooms and one bathroom. Hosts live in upstairs duplex with separate entrance.
This listing includes the entire 1,000 square feet with 2 bedrooms. For agile campers, there's a tree house that can be rented separately for $45.00 per night. Email for info.
The pre-1850's farm house was built in the “German Mennonite” pioneer style with thick logs, covered in clap board and later vinyl sided. The farm has been in the “Good” family since 1957. When we were married, we split the house so we could live upstairs in order to accommodate three generations while raising our kids and taking care of the grandparents. They all have moved on, and the nest emptied!
My dream was to find guests to share the home we love. You can imagine my excitement to discover Airbnb! We've had fabulous visitors and enjoyed every one!
The pre 1950's kitchen has a new counter top and sink, but we kept the charming cupboards just as they were. There's a drawer that still has tin lining that was originally for flour. It has a single sink and we still wash dishes by hand as has always been done here; the house has never seen a machine dish washer. There is a microwave, fridge, stove, dishes etc.
The living room walls have been scraped back to the irregular lathe and plaster, painted a soft light green and furnished representing the character of many eras those walls have seen. Although the character of the house is of simplicity, the walls showcase my mothers oil landscape paintings and my lettering art calligraphy. There is limited wifi, it works well but not for streaming movies. No t.v.
When we updated the bathroom, I found an old dresser top with a missing mirror in the attic. I refinished it hoping that somehow it could attach it to a dresser I had been using for many years in my sewing room. To my surprise, when I put the two together the holes lined up reuniting the piece as it was long ago! It now serves as the bathroom sink. There is a full bath/ shower and toilet. You can warm your towels on the hot water rads in the winter. I sewed cozy house coats for you to use if you wish.
The Peach Tree Room has a brand new "King to Twin" that you can request to be made either as a King or 2 twins! There are two closets and a dresser. The 2 large windows are embraced by spruce trees with a view across farm fields.
The Lilac Room Has a queen bed and an antique wardrobe and blanket box. The window looks over the garden and Stone House Gallery.
Extra guests? At $25.00 each, there's a pullout single in the living room, air mattresses for the floor, and a queen pull out in the Stone House. You can rent the Tree Fort separately.
Half way between Stratford and Kitchener-Waterloo. Easy access from highway 7&8 but removed from roads with a long lane. (Don't try to pass in the drive way, it's one way only! Wait at the end until it is clear.)
The rental has its own parking and entrance with 4 steps up to the porch. Arrange check in time with hosts after 3:00 so we can greet you. Check out at 11:00 a.m.
We live upstairs and will be available to assist with questions. Feel free to chat or have a quiet space to yourself. We try to be sensitive to balance between extending a warm welcome to you as our guests in our home on the one hand, and on the other hand, leaving space for your privacy which is totally respected. The space is separate and there is
no need to interact if you don't want to.
Guests are welcome to enjoy the gardens. You can hike or cross country ski across our back fields through our forest. Take note that path is very uneven walking; watch your ankles and wear good footwear.
You may hear an early morning tractor going past the window, the traffic in the distance or dog barking, but otherwise visitors tell us it's peaceful.
The Stone House Gallery and workshop for students is beside the farm house. You may book a private or group Expressive Art Workshops with Cheryl.
You can art journal, sew, make cards, learn calligraphy etc. Often we combine some of the above. For example we sometimes letter words on fabric then incorporate it into a book or make a hanging piece.

Our dog, Bella is friendly and will greet you warmly. (The kids who come for art lessons named her Ador-a-bella since they think she is adorable and barks when people come, like a doorbell). If you are not comfortable with dogs, I understand and will keep her away. Just let me know as some people want to enjoy her and others do not. She is NOT okay with pets
There are tractors that buzz around the yard to the fields throughout the day. On the farm we grow vegetables, mostly cabbage and produce sauerkraut and sour head cabbage for local meat and European specialty stores.

We're vegetable farmers since 1977, I am an artist. We love to be outdoors enjoying nature, walking, back packing and biking. We like to stay in one area and explore it slowly, looking for quiet, natural settings as much as possible.
