It ends the way it begins.
I don't like giving a bad reviews but unfortunately I'm almost force to respond to this guest as Anna has threatened to leave a negative review on my listing. My cottage is for non-smokers as stated in my listing. Anna booked my home for her in-laws who are smokers. The problems started upon their arrival. The in-laws were rude to my mom, who manages the cottage, as she TRYED to show them the cottage, give them useful information, such as internet passwords, etc. as well as inform them of the house rules. She was repeatably told by Sylvia, Anna's mother-in-law, "We don't need to know that" on everything. Honestly, its rude to come into someones home and not show them enough respect to stop what you're doing to speak with them.
They were asked to leave after my mom informed me that she saw Anna's stepfather inside with at cigarette in his mouth. Anna's mother-in-law' suggested they would get another place to stay- " I'm sorry we haven't smoked indoors but outside only. If that doesn't work for you please let us know we'll find another place to stay. ". I took them up on it and asked them to seek other accommodations. If you knew your in-laws smoke, why would you suggest they rent a home that does not permit smoking? Anna's in-laws stood the night in my home. The next morning, an hour prior to check-out, I received a text : "We could not connect to the internet it's not right to throw us out in the middle of the night we've done nothing wrong ". My mom did not come in the middle of the night to "throw them out". She's generally in bed by 8-9 p.m. with lights out and shades drawn.
Prior to leaving, they discovered a crack in their windshield and accused my mom of "smashing it" and called the police. After driving for 5-6 hours on the freeway, I'm guessing a stone more than likely hit it. In their last text they demanded compensation for THEIR trouble AND a refund- " Haven't slept at all we expect to get compensation for our trouble on top of the refund.". I called the in-laws while police were still present. The conversation abruptly ended with Sylvia saying " I need to go to breakfast" . ???
There's a saying- It ends the way it begins. Airbnb frowns on third party rentals for this exact reason.
