Our spacious, charming, house is situated on 17 secluded acres in Garrison, NY, just over an hour from New York City. We are close to West Point, lots of trails, including Breakneck Ridge (1 of 10 best hikes in America), Woodbury Commons, Beacon, and historic Cold Spring with its great restaurants and shops. Our place is great for families and groups. We are 12 minutes from the MetroNorth train station and a comfortable 1 hr train ride to Grand Central Station in the heart of Manhattan.
A winding driveway takes you through the woods to our 3,200 square foot, cedar-shingled house, just a stone’s throw from the historic town of Cold Spring.
The house features a glass-domed, eat-in kitchen (seats four comfortably, six cozily) and a wood-burning stove. The kitchen is well equipped and directly adjacent to a living room with a dining table that (with extensions) seats 12.
The living room has cathedral ceilings, a wood-burning stove, a large comfortable couch, and second futon couch that converts into a double bed.
Directly off the kitchen is a natural stone patio nestled among abundant ferns and flowers. There are two seating areas and two grills – a Char Griller charcoal grill and a Weber gas grill.
Master Bedroom (upstairs):
Beautiful large light space with three skylights and windows giving a nice view of the property. Extremely comfortable king-sized bed and two couches.
Bedroom 2 (downstairs):
Luxurious king-sized bed with windows looking up the back yard into the woods. Adjacent laundry room with washer and dryer.
Bedroom 3 (downstairs):
Small, charming bedroom, off the living room, with very comfortable full-sized bed and window looking up the back yard into the woods.
Bedroom 4 (upstairs loft bedroom):
Directly off the master bedroom and above the living room, this open space loft has a spectacular view of the woods. It has a twin bed with a roll-out trundle bed as well as a flat screen TV and DVD players, and a sofa. Ideal for teenage kids.
Huge family room with cathedral ceilings and criss-cross beams. Very comfortable American Leather fold-out king-sized bed, a large flat-screen TV with Blu-Ray player and basic cable. Collection of DVDs and Blu-Ray discs. Two additional couches make this space a great screening room. Desk and some tables for working. Laser printer with USB cable, WiFi router and Internet connection. Cherry wood bar (not stocked!) with sink and basic bar tools and glasses. Closet with playing cards, board games, and puzzles for adults and kids.
Bathrooms – One upstairs, one downstairs. Upstairs has bathtub/shower; downstairs a stall shower.
Things to Do
We are 15 minutes to historic Cold Spring and 20 minutes to Beacon, both towns with abundant antique stores, galleries, restaurants and unique shops (Moo Moo’s homemade ice cream, near the Cold Spring gazebo, is a must! )
Nearby are Fahnestock State Park (for swimming and picnicking,) Breakneck Ridge (1 of 10 best hikes in America) and other trails, West Point, the Appalachian Trail, Manitoga Nature Center (home of designer, Russell Wright,) and the Hudson Valley Shakespeare Festival. Other area attractions include Storm King Sculpture Center, the Dia Foundation in Beacon, the Boscobel Estate, and Constitution Marsh (for walking, kayaking and canoeing) and The Garrison (for yoga enthusiasts and golfers.) There are weekend farmer’s markets in Cold Spring, Peekskill and Beacon. The Hamilton Fish Library has a kids’ reading room, as well as children’s and cultural events.
From our house, you can walk the dirt road to Graymoor, a beautiful Franciscan retreat that also has a large thrift shop where you can find amazing bargains on clothes, china, and furniture.
About 10 minutes up Route 9, you will find Vera’s Market , where you can get all kinds of fresh fruits and vegetables, specialty foods, like her homemade mozzarella and award-winning home-made donuts. Right next door to Vera’s is The Pantry, a specialty coffee and craft beer shop and Marbled Meats, a boutique butcher shop. For bargain hunters, Woodbury Commons is about a 30-minute drive.
Our tenant, Ross, lives in a private apartment above the garage. He will show you around, answer questions, and then give you complete privacy.

- We expect you to treat the house as if it were your own. Before you check out, please make sure all dirty dishes are washed (not left on kitchen counter or sink), all kitchen garbage has been bagged and deposited in green containers by the front gate, and any wet towels are hung in the bathroom to dry.
I'm a theatre professional, director, actor, author, and I write computer software. My wife, Jane, is a university professor, and has her own communications consultancy. We've got two children, a daughter who is in graduate school, and a son who is finishing junior year in college. We live in Manhattan, NY, and we love to travel!
