First, I want to say that we loved Sagres, and our stay at Navigator was very nice. But I have a problem with the details of the listing. I am going to describe my concerns, then I'll talk about the many positives of this property. Anyone interested in booking should read my review to the end.
The listing states the property is 100 meters from the beach. When I looked at the pictures, it looked considerably farther, so I messaged the owner. Ana responded back to me that the property is 50 meters from the beach. Actually, the property is 50-100 meters to the edge of a cliff that looks down on the beach. There is an advertisement at the entry to the parking lot that states it is 300 meters to the beach.
Also, be aware that this is a hotel. It is a pleasant and clean hotel with suites including a kitchen, but it is a hotel. The daily cleaning service was nice, but it also meant we had to rent the room safe. And the noise level between rooms in a hotel is different than an apartment/condo building.
Last, we were not provided with a good address. On our first try, GPS took us to another town 10km away. We called and were told to "drive to Sagres," when we reached Sagres and didn't know where to go from there, we called and were told to "drive toward the marina," and no better address was provided. We drove around Sagres and the marina, but still were unable to find the property. Calling again, we were finally told the name of the property: Navigator Aparthotel. We navigated directly to the location after entering the name of the hotel in the GPS. And there was no apology for our difficulty.
Having provided that information, I will also say the hotel is very nice, staff are friendly and efficient (beyond the initial experience at arrival), the housekeepers are lovely people. The kitchen well-equipped for most people. We like to cook so it didn't fully meet our needs, but many people don't want to cook on holiday. We prepared breakfasts and lunches easily and without problem, and had dinner out each night (we stayed 7 nights).
The pool is clean and large, but the paint on the bottom is peeling. This did stop us from using it.
The beach is reached via a path down from the cliff (less that 10 minutes) or via walking (about 12 mins) or driving down the road. The beach is beautiful and in September it was not too crowded. The sign says "no dogs," but there were well-behaved dogs on the beach, including ours.
In summary, we truly enjoyed our stay, but feel the "owner" was not truthful describing the property. We would return, but the 2nd time we would know what to expect and how to find the place!
