We only spent 1 night at Double J but thoroughly enjoyed it. Our cabin was simple but charming and had all the essentials, including a very large and comfortable bed and modern bathroom. We arrived much later than expected (in the dark), but the host, Leah, was there to meet us. She was incredibly friendly and helpful, showing us how to use the fully kitted-out communal kitchen and laundry rooms (we had them all to ourselves as there were no other guests staying that night). Double J ranch is blissfully quiet, but if you're in a saloon car (like us), be aware that you'll need to take it slowly on the 1.5 mile dirt/gravel drive. Shame we couldn't have stayed longer!
My adult son and I stayed in a cabin as a base for a fly fishing trip. We were hoping for solitude and unplugging from the world for a few days, and we got it. We spent the evenings sitting on the porch, reading and enjoying the view. We fished up on the Green River headwaters in the National Forest area just north of Cora, which was about a 45 min drive away. Caught a lot! The cabin proved to be about as convenient as you can get to there. Also very convenient to Pinedale, where we were able to stock up with food to bring back to the cookhouse with all the modern amenities. The cabin exceeded our expectations in terms of quality and comfort and convenience. It's first class. A great view of the Wind River range for sunrises and sunsets. One evening on the porch we spotted a bald eagle fishing over the Green River, near the entrance to the ranch's driveway. Chatted with the host a few times and learned a ton about the ranching lifestyle and how a working cattle ranch operates. After checking out, we had a 90 min drive to the Big Sandy trailhead in the southern Wind Rivers for a 3 night backpacking/fishing trip. Spectacular! All in all, a lovely introduction for my son to the Wind Rivers and my favorite part of the real Wyoming. Jackson is nice, I know it well, but this place in Daniel is really, really special. You won't be disappointed.
I stayed at Double J ranch on my way up to Jackson from SLC for two nights. Solo traveler and felt welcomed and safe. The cabin is adorable and sits way back off the road. You are staying on a working ranch so expect dirt roads, some bugs and animals! So peaceful. If you are looking for action stay in Jackson, this is for quiet nights, reading and writing. It's 1.5hrs to Jackson and 2 hrs to all decent trailheads in Teton NP. They don't even mention a full kitchen cabin that you can use with a sink, refrigerator, ect. That was a bonus. Plus the countrymart gas station at the end of the road has amazing chicken fingers ;) Bring bug spray and you'll be good to go!
This place is rustic fabulous, beautiful setting, secluded on a working cattle ranch with a country-fab cookshack with latest appliances, keurigs and dishwasher. Beautiful front porch with huge handmade picnic tables, with gas grill and overhead heaters. Nothing lacking here except noise and city traffic! Go here with a good book, thick steaks and a can of Off (seriously persistent mosquitoes) we loved it!
