This is a wonderful place for quiet contemplation and close proximity to nature for a couple or a solo adventurer- a charming 2 bedroom artist's home set on the edge of a Nature Preserve which provides a peaceful & inspiring setting.
The landmarked village of Rensselaerville is just a few minutes away on foot with a wonderful library and homes from the 18th & 19th c. The Huyck Preserve & Lake Myosotis for swimming and hiking are nearby. Farmland and wooded hills surround the hamlet.
The house is situated just a few feet from a quiet road, with a parking space directly across from the front door. This makes it easy to pack and unpack from the car.
The town of Hudson is 45 min. East on the other side of the river which has many shops, restaurants, antiques and art galleries. Albany & suburbs are also about 30 miles away.
The house is cozy and accessible. As one enters the foyer from the front door, there is living/dining room with a bay window and a picture perfect view of the woods of the Nature Preserve beyond the 1/4 acre of land. The dining room table can easily accommodate 4 or more people. There is a table for dining and furniture on the patio to relax.
The kitchen off the living room has a small breakfast table, gas stove and refrigerator. The side door leads to the breezeway with a stone path to the terrace and backyard or to the front of the house and the street.
The downstairs bedroom is to the left of the foyer with a queen size bed & access to the bathroom. There is a second door which gives access to the only bathroom from a hallway for guests, and to the back door leading to the terrace.
Guests stay in the upstairs bedroom, a lovely dormer room with a double bed.
I would be available by phone or email to answer any questions as I live in New York City. Arrangements will be made to pick up and leave the keys.
There is no Wifi service here at the house. (An opportunity to unplug!)
Verizon, which I use, works very well. Other providers may be difficult to access locally.
There is Wifi located in the town library.
Rensselaerville is in the Helderberg Mts., about 1500 ft. above sea level.
It gets cool in the evenings and in inclement weather.
Bring a sweater or light jacket to wear. Good walking shoes are advisable.
Please be aware that ticks are plentiful this year!
Please check carefully after walking in the grass or if you hike in the Preserve. There is an insecticide and a natural spray available in the breezeway.
Please be careful using the small charcoal Weber grill. Allow charcoal to completely extinguish overnight.
I would ask that guests be respectful of the space and its contents. Please be aware of loud music and excessive noise. The barn on the property is off limits as it is structurally unsound.
I am an artist and proprietor of a small gallery and framing studio in the Flatiron District of Manhattan. I've lived in the East Village of NY for nearly 40 years. I have made a living as a framer and artist nearly as long.
I appreciate poetry, drawing & painting reflected through nature.
I was lucky to find a small house in upstate New York which has offered me a sense of peace surrounded by natural beauty and a community of like minded people. I hope to eventually create a studio there as well as travel abroad for study and exhibition.
My home is a reflection of who I am. It offers me a sense of calm and inspiration. It is a nice environment to unplug and experience quality time.
