This cottage in TWEE RIVIERE village, forms part of the tree-rich campus grounds of The South African Institute for Heritage Science, and is situated diagonally across the road from the popular Belfry Kitchen restaurant.
The setting is unique: A small, academic campus, located in a thoroughly rural valley setting.
Most of the 15 hectare campus grounds and landscape is accessible to guests, including the campus cafeteria, The Belfry Kitchen.
Out of bounds are: The faculty buildings themselves and the handful of private residences on the grounds
Reuben, manager of the on-campus restaurant, The Belfry Kitchen, is the primary host to all campus guests. Campus Hospitality staff remain contactable and available at all times.
Due to campus policies, please note that outdoor cooking is restricted on the grounds, and that footwear is required if venturing about on campus - though bare feet are WELCOME at one's actual place of accommodation of course!
The environment of a rural academic campus holds natural appeal for the more reflective traveler, the romantic, the lover of landscapes and trees, and (perhaps) the scholarly. This is more or less the opposite of an activity destination we'd say, since the college's formal character has the effect of discouraging overt, boisterous play. Perfect for many of our guests, but maybe worth considering any accompanying children's expectations before booking. Half of our younger visitors think this is a great spot. The other half... meh.
