This landmark home is close to everything in Kansas City..The Plaza 5min, Westport 4min, Power and Light 6min. Located in Midtown KC in the historic neighborhood of Hyde Park, the house was built in 1911 by the Chief of police John B. Hays during the Pendergast era. The house received a complete restoration from 2010-2016 and has been featured in Kansas City Home and Garden and Ink Magazine.

This listing is for the first and second floors of the house. The third floor is a separate unit, guests enter via the back porch. All utilities are separate and each unit has its own water heater. Both spaces are listed and can be rented. The basement and garage are unfinished and not for guest use. The house has an alarm and surveillance system for guest safety.

This is not a "party house".....but have fun as adults and respect the neighbors. The front porch can not be used after 11pm. This is a family neighborhood, not a cabin in the woods or a lake house. There is an outdoor cat that lives in the garage, her name is Sky. Unapproved guest will not be tolerated.

We had a wonderful time at Andrew's home. We rented it specifically for an event (cleared it with Andrew first), but also stayed in the home. It was stylish and clean. Loved the jacuzzi tub and the waterfall shower head! As long as you respect the historical nature of the house and realize it's someone's home, you won't have any issues. Andrew was communicative and let us know if he might have to stop by during our stay.

House was huge and beautiful exactly how it looks in the picture online. Check in was easy, and Andrew even stuck around to show us features of the house even though it was after midnight. Overall great value. Couple of notes for travelers -- there is WiFi, but it's spotty at best. Probably fine for checking email once or twice a day, but definitely not suitable if anyone is traveling for work. Additionally, it looked like there were smoke detectors scattered throughout the house but not in every room which would have made me feel better. There wasn't even one in the master bedroom.

The house has 300mbps internet service and smoke detectors in the hallways that are connected to the alarm system.

Wow! What a beautiful house. Andrew has done an amazing job of restoring this property to its original glory. This historic mansion in Hyde Park has a ton of charm. It is in a quiet neighborhood with large shade trees, walking paths, & parks nearby. A nice getaway in the middle of Kansas City.

Beautiful place, lovingly restored and replete with historic touches. The midtown location is equally accessible to downtown, country club plaza and the Nelson Atkins art museum. Great walkable neighborhood of stately homes, with parks and hiking trails one block away.

FACT: The house is in a beautiful location and is well kept by the owner. FICTION: The homeowner will provide privacy to his guests (our first day there, we came back from an outing to find the homeowner in the house without our knowledge or permission) FACT: Without question, you can hear noise from the top apartments, regardless of the homeowners statements on soundproofing. FICTION: Items in the house are open for guest use (we used some Yeti koozies that were in a kitchen cabinet, which made the homeowner incredibly upset). FACT: The homeowner was in the house at 1:00 a.m. without consent or warning (this was the second time in our three day stay). FICTION: He was there because of "complaints" from the neighbor about sound (only two guests were at the house when the homeowner barged in during the middle of the night), and of flooding of his basement (although it had rained all day, and he choose 1:00 a.m. to check on the basement). FACT: The homeowner clearly does not enjoy renting out this property. From the minute he checked our group in, he was obsessed about "partying" at the house (a group of middle aged men drinking beer and playing cards does not meet any definition of partying). FICTION: Every justification the homeowner will use for his irrational behavior. FACT: Airbnb refunded a portion of our stay due to some of the items mentioned above.

FACT: Eric is a child that can't even figure out how to rotate his profile picture. He and his little buddies left a crushed beer can on the dinning room chandler and three half gallon empty bottles of hard alcohol along with the beer cans, hardly a group of middle aged guys. The listing (like 99.9% of all listing) says NO PARTIES....yes I received complaints from my neighbors about the 8 guys drinking at 2AM on the porch. I have three simple house rules that were broken. I told the group I would drop an extra key off, did that and noticed they were using items that were clearly in the kitchen display cases as decor. There was a record rain that closed streets and flooded business all over town, it ended at 1AM...I checked all my properties...never barged in. He has cried and complained so much about the review I gave him that he was given a 10% refund by the site. EVERYONE is tired of dealing with him, for two weeks after his stay. Fact: Love renting to ADULTS that are respectful

What an outstanding experience. Andrew was great and attentive and his whole house is incredible. Amenities galore and a cute kitty cat who lives on the property. Also he has awesome neighbors with awesome dogs. Big fan of this spot. Its in close proximity to great BBQ and parks and its an easy drive. The porch in our opinion is the highlight of the house but theres TVs in every room and the bathrooms are perfect. Very family friendly house and our whole experience made KC feel like home. Especially when you can do a short drive to the grocery store and go on a morning run. Definitely coming back.

Interaction with guests

I generally meet guests at the house to give them keys and show them the basics. It is a large property and some instructions are better spoken. When not available a key is left in a lock box. If maintenance is needed I will contact you.
