This is a cozy, traditionally-built Javanese house. It's not a private room but your won't care much for it since everything you need is there. The part allocated for my stay is completely made of wood, using traditional Javanese woodwork. It's ornate and beautiful. The house is very clean and tidy, while the front yard is well maintained. The bathroom and toilet too are traditional and simple. Breakfast is not included, so bring some snacks if you're looking to depart early in the morning. Setiyo is a extremely nice, down-to-earth human being, I very much enjoyed conversing with him. He even took me on a tour of Jepara after which we went for a few beers at a nice joint that served some delicious sweet and spicy corn. Jepara is the centre of traditional Javanese woodcraft and Setiyo has a good knowledge about this as he too is an entrepreneur in this field. I would highly recommend anyone hoping to catch the early morning boat to Karimunjawa to stay here and get a dose of local culture as every part of Java has a unique background not to be missed. Best wishes to Setiyo and his family!
Setiyo is a great host, he always promptly response to my questions before the journey, that did help a lot for planning the travel. Appreciated for Setiyo and his families for offering the great home stay and given the advice about the local. Everything is perfect in staying in the beautiful traditional house except the summer mosquitos.(a mosquito net may be a good stuff to accompany with the trip in the hot season ^^ )
This was so far my best experience on Airbnb. And very important detail, my first experience sharing a house, which made me doubt about staying there at the beginning. Setiyo is lovely, super respectful and a very insteresting person. We had long chats about many different things and he told us lots of stuff about the country. It was great to be able to live in an Indonesian house, everything was super clean and all the family is lovely. The house is beautiful, has a cute garden and during the rainy season, it's just magical to sit on the terrace and enjoy the smell and sound of the rain. About the bed and toilet, basic Indonesian style, no air con but the temperature is perfect. One thing to have in account is that there's no privacy, as the bedroom is not totally closed, but who cares when you have all the other great things? They offered us super tasty coffee and fried bananas + the motorbike any time we needed it. He helped us to change money and made us feel at home. Totally recommended!
