We loved Brian's apartment. We were looking for a 'real' experience for our first trip to NYC, and we were not disappointed. The Upper East Side is just as 'advertised'... sleek, chic, and classic NYC. It is both a sophisticated neighborhood as well as convenient location.
Although the apartment is a studio, we never felt confined, even with all of our luggage and belongings. The space is clean, cozy, comfortable, and safe. It's three blocks from Central Park, and close to shops, stores, and restaurants. (Do not miss the bakery across the street -- Corrado -- it's a gem, and a great way to start the day!) The apartment is situated on a corner with nice street views from the third floor. There is no elevator, so a little workout is required via stairs. As an 'authentic' NYC space, street noise is included with the package.
Like my wife & I, Brian was also on vacation during the week of our visit, so we never met in person. However, communications with Brian were excellent and he was genuinely interested in ensuring that we had everything we needed to enjoy our stay -- including numerous suggestions on local venues, points of interest, and general tips. (We did speak once on the phone to nail down key exchange details prior to our arrival.)
On a negative note, I've asked Brian to remove "Bella Blu" from his list of recommended restaurants that is provided to guests. This is due to a severe case of food poisoning I experienced after dining there. I do not give second chances to restaurants that fail me on this level and I urge you to heed my warning. In addition to becoming violently ill, it also cost us 1.5 days of valuable vacation time (including $ lost to prepaid/prescheduled events) due to recovery time. I am only reporting fact for the consideration of fellow travelers.
On a more positive note, and positive close, this was an amazing trip for us and one that was filled with equally amazing experiences. Our long walks through Central Park were truly magical, which provided perfect contrast to the tremendous buzz of the surrounding city. Brian's apartment was a great launchpad for all of our experiences, and despite the aforementioned negative, we are very thankful & appreciative to Brian for his generosity in opening up his home -- which we highly recommend to those who might be seeking a similar 'authentic' NYC experience.
