Wivenhoe Essex สหราชอาณาจักร

Wivenhoe is a cosmopolitan village influenced by its proximity to Essex University and hosts artists, poets, and musicians. You have a choice of 6 interesting pubs some of which offer live music and a range of varied restaurants and cafes for such a compact village. The village also holds regular literary art and film events. Situated on the river Colne its a favorite spot for marine activity and has a sailing club and annual regatta. The village is situated in an area of natural beauty which attracts those interested in nature and birdwatchers. The Wivenhoe trail is a footpath/cycle path which connects the village to the University and to Colchester (Britains oldest recorded town). Footpaths along the river meander to nearby Alresford and Brightlingsea. The Wivenhoe ferry will transport you to Rowhedge and Fingeringhoe (other picturesque riverside villages.) You can also travel to Mersea Island (7 or 8 miles from Colchester across a causway which is subject to high tides). There is also a ferry from nearby Brightlingsea to East Mersea. There is a timetable for the Ferry if you search Wivenhoe or Brightlingsea Ferry. This is subject to tide fluctuation.
From Wivenhoe station, London is an hour away for those looking for more stimulation and Clacton, Waltonand Frinton (popular seaside destinations) are accessible by train and bus. Brightlingsea is also a short drive, bus ride or even a possible walk.

We are a retired couple and live 3 miles from our holiday cottage listed in Wivenhoe, Colchester. I have a friendly Spanish Water Dog and between my husband and I us we have 6 adult children (living independently) and eight grandchildren. We live in a large detached house in Colchester (about 10-15 minutes walk from the centre) and since the last child moved out have started to do airb&b in our own home as well as letting out a small cottage in Wivenhoe. The space set aside in our own house includes a bedroom with double bed, a private upstairs living room, and private use of the upstairs bathroom. In that way it is more or less self contained within our family home. However, expect to meet us on the stairs and hallways.! You are also welcome to access the garden in nicer weather or to smoke. We don't smoke so don't allow it in the house. We both enjoy live music and walking and I do life drawing and writing. We have a large selection of walk books of Essex,Suffolk and Norfolk. Please ask us any local questions and we will do our best to help. Anyone staying with us will need to be tolerant of our dog Otto (he is very friendly but a little needy) and visiting family including children. Our house however is spacious and relaxed. We are very sociable and enjoy hosting but will also respect your privacy. We are often out and about and can advise you of local pubs,music venues and more cultural pursuits.
