Meerensee is a peaceful secure oasis located where the Bot River meets the sea - close to Hermanus in the Western Cape, South Africa. At this quaint 3 bedroom wooden house, you'll hear the waves on the beach and enjoy nature and birdlife around you.
Bring your decoder and smart card if you want to watch TV
This spacious wooden house will make you feel at home immediately. Laid-back yet comfortable and newly renovated, it has all the comforts you need - from ample sleeping space to well-equipped kitchen. You will probably spend much of your time wandering around amongst the Fynbos, or along the lagoon and beach. It is a birdwatcher's paradise. The popular seaside town Hermanus is only a few kilometers away if you need to do some shopping, and Fisherhaven is just on your doorstep a mere 2 kilometers away. The Whale Coast around you offers wonderful scenery and attractions - from Gansbaai and Stanford, to Kleinmond, Pringle Bay and Betty's Bay with its Penguin Colony and Botanical Gardens. If you want to take a drive to Cape Town, you can do so either all along the coastline via Gordon's Bay, or take a shortcut over Sir Lowry's Pass. There are unlimited opportunities for entertainment and relaxation.
The whole house will be at your disposal, as well as the nature reserve Middlevlei in which Meerensee is located. Just across the road you will find a club house with TV lounge, next to tennis courts, playground and two swimming pools (a small one for toddlers and large one for adults and older kids). A short walk of about 100 meters to the lagoon, and approximately 300 meters to the sea. The waves can be quite wild, so swimming in the sea is not recommended. The lagoon is quite safe. Whilst wandering around the nature reserve or in Fisherhaven next door, you may be fortunate enough to encounter our famous wild horses - the last in the Western Cape. Watch, don't touch or feed them - they flourish on the natural vegetation in the area and they should be left alone to remain free.
If you need anything during your stay, give me a call. Tourist brochures and emergency numbers will be available on the coffee table. Please leave them behind for the next guests please. The Hermanus Tourism Bureau next to the Checkers Centre also has the latest information regarding activities or festivals in the area.
Remember this is a security village, and we care about your safety. Sign in and out at the security gate to the entrance of Middlevlei Estate. Nobody can come through without permission from the owners. If you should need some advice or assistance, the Clubhouse is manned during office hours, and the working team in the Estate is reliable and trustworthy.

I have been living at Meerensee for more than six years. It is a piece of unspoilt paradise, and probably the best kept secret in South Africa. I have decided to start acting as host for holiday accommodation here, since I live on the premises, and will be available to oversee the operation, see to the cleaning before and after, and handle the keys and accessibility to the secure nature reserve. It is a unique and pleasant way to get to spend some time in an oasis where you can recover your equilibrium and spend some quality time in nature - alone or with friends and family. So why not take the leap and contact me at , or This is just one of the holiday rentals available. Alta Pretorius (former manager of Hermanus Tourism Bureau and Hermanus Business Chamber).
