Based on our research and preferences prior to going to the Yucatan, we chose the option of staying in a fully functional home (in lieu of a condo, hotel, resort...). As it turns out, we chose Astrids' home. A home with, not only your standard amenities of comfort/convenience (kitchen, dining room, (2) bedrooms, (3) bathrooms, and social living rooms on both the ground & upstairs levels), but also a swimming pool, cabana, and lush tropical yard. All within a securely walled residential property located within a lovely and quiet neighborhood. This (home) choice went hand-in-hand with our choice to rent a car, a car that we could utilize to go in any direction, at any time, to experience the countless attractions associated with the entire area. a car that we could park on the carport within the secured/walled/gated property. So Astrids' home did in fact make perfect sense to us. As it offered comfort and security within an ideal location (southern outskirts of Cancun, and 40 minutes north of Playa Del Carmen).
As for our own personnel experiences, the home was all that we could have asked for: to make a meal in a functional kitchen, to sleep in a comfortable bed within a bedroom, to be able to lounge in/by the swimming pool within a beautiful and sizable tropical garden like yard, to be able to conveniently go to a local grocery store or restaurant (located just blocks away).
In summery, we were all very pleased with the home & the choice to stay in a quiet residential community. Astrid and her son-in-law (Rolando) were more than helpful and accommodating when it came to my reaching out to them for "tourist activity" advise.
The Yucatan and the people there are truly a joy, and staying at Astrids guest home was a comfortable, rewarding and prudent choice.
Unless you need to stay at a place overlooking the beach, there weren't any negatives or detractions associated with staying within this lovely & comfortable home/property. It was safe, secure, convenient, comfortable, aesthetic......
