Actually, I was out of contact for a few hours while I was at a football game, not "til the next day." Yes, the cleaning crew dropped the ball on the date of cleaning, but they had just cleaned the place three days prior. So Hannah and her boyfriend did not exactly arrive to a dirty place, it was just that their room had not been cleaned. They did have a perfectly clean room to stay in, in the meantime, until the cleaning crew could get there the next day to correct their mistake. Hannah took the initiative to stay in that room even before I had gotten back with them about it, so they were not too put out by my being out of touch for a few hours. Besides, I refunded them the price difference in the room rate, plus an additional day for the inconvenience of having to have the place cleaned during their stay. I told them when the cleaning crew would be arriving, but they arrived a little late due to the weekend traffic. Still, they were out of there four hours after I told the guests they would be there, so this inconvenience was well-compensated, in my opinion. Parking is available and their supposed lack, thereof, was never mentioned until the guest didn't check out in time for the cleaning crew to do their job and they were charged for it. Same with the bathroom light problem. It was never mentioned until after the fact, when it had already been brought to my attention by another guest that checked in after them. The switch was fixed the day after it was brought to my attention. As far as the drain is concerned, that was their fault for not cleaning their feet properly, as explicitly described in both the house manual and the house rules. They're lucky I didn't charge them for that, because the guest that brought the light to my attention also told me that there was always sand in the tub after they showered. Plus, when the cleaning crew came to clean and the guests were still there, they reported surfboards leaning on a valuable piece of art and beer and wine bottles everywhere. Obviously, I can't address things when I am away unless they are brought to my attention. Clearly, this was a disingenuous and disrespectful guest, disgruntled over their own lack of communication.
