Charming cottage near ABI airport--Great location. Small full Kitchen, 53" flat screen satellite TV, Memory Foam Beds, Free Parking, Private lake with boat dock and pool access for guests. Infinity pool sits behind main house w/hot tub in pool. We have finally installed WIFI at cottage and hope it stays up and running. If yours is not running, ours is not running.
We are in central location in ABILENE on a private lake. Only the homeowners are allowed to use lake. There is a boat dock, pool/spa behind our main house for a 3 minute walk. During cold weather the spa is $40 extra to use; during warm weather it is $20 to use. This is below the cost of our operation. The neighborhood is a nice established neighborhood and people seldom move off the lake if they have lake front property. You can bring your own gear to fish off boat dock. The lot is approximately 3 acres and very private. Any additional guests over 6 people will increase the rate to $15 per guest to rent this property with a limit of 8 guests.
Guests have access to all ABILENE festivals, zoo (close to properly), Taylor County Coliseum is two blocks from cottage. Even though this is urban living there is quite a bit of wildlife in and around the property (i.e., fishing herons, owls, foxes, prairie dogs, many species of water fowl and fish). Bring some fishing gear or stop at local Walmart for kid gear & live bait. Bring a kayak and cruise/fish on the lake.
If we are at home, we try to stop and say hello, especially to explain where to park if more than one car. We have new irrigation system so be careful to stay off grass. All irrigation is from lake when allowed by Lake District. We think you will find new infinity swimming pool behind the main house on property a great place to view of the lake at all times of day. Always try to give me a heads up if you plan to use pool and time of day so we can coordinate! Note: $20 per use to hear hot tub during warm months, $40 per use during cold months.
Please note there is not a door between the large bedroom and the TV area. This is not a privacy issue, rather, it may pose problems with small children who need to be enclosed for sleeping purposes.
Due to age of property, it was constructed so that you must walk through a small bedroom to access the only bathroom in the cottage.
The owner recently had severe increase in blood sugar so there is a new treadmill in cottage that is covered and sits in corner, out of the way of all traffic.
-Please review small notebook in cottage and notify owners if you plan to host a party or event so there are no misunderstandings or conflicts, especially w/parking . . . you could get blocked in for hours if you don't pay attention to where you are parking.
-This property is not suitable for toddlers and very young children as it is surrounded by water.
-Guests are responsible for city, county, and state occupancy tax upon departure. An envelope and tax chart is provided for ease of figuring the proper amount. If you have any questions, please ask me.
-City tax is 7%, County tax is 2%, State tax is 6% for a total of 15% of total reservation amount. Please leave a check in the envelope provided made payable to M.A. Fergus. You can find those in cottage notebook.
-No smoking permitted in the house or within 20 feet of property.
-A $20 additional fee is required for hot tub per use (unfortunately the gas bill for one use is actually higher than this price) and if the weather has a low of 40F during the 24 hour period of requested use, A $40 additional fee for hot tub per use is imposed. But you get a great sky, sunset and outdoor planetarium if the sky is clear.
-Please do not park on the grass, there is plenty of parking in and around the property as it is set off of an esplanade (Campbell Drive) maintained by the City of Abilene on the small road outside the rock fence. We have had trouble with broken sprinkler systems within our property. Our irrigation specialist loves it when someone drives over a sprinkler head.
A more extensive list of house rules are found in notebook in the guest cottage.
I am an attorney in Abilene, Texas as is my husband. We live in the main house where the AirBNB cottage is located. It is far enough away that you will not notice our presence most of the time. Our children are grown and in fact our son is recently married to his law school sweetheart who also practice at our law firm Fergus & Fergus, LLP here in Abilene. Our youngest child is still in Graduate school in Yale pursing a Masters of Divinity. We are active in the community, and have many friends and family in the area. We attend St. Paul United Methodist Church (since 1954--family membership) and have served in many philanthropic projects in Abilene for all of the years we have resided here. The Cooler months in Texas are beautiful and if you are looking for a cozy, quiet place to stay, this is the right place for you.
