This is a great place to stay of you like your tourist areas within arms reach, but don't actually want to stay in the tourist center. Avenida Buenos Aires is amazing, and this place is next to all kinds of cool commerce. The room itself is pretty simple, and probably best suited to someone who just plans to sleep there. I used the kitchen, and it was great! Also! Osvaldo and Mary are gracious, communicative, hosts. They even let me keep my bag at their place past check out, so I could keep exploring until my night bus left for Uyuni.
The room was very big and and comfortable. There is a huge fruit and vegetable market very close. Also, the main touristy area including San Francisco church is about 15/20 min walk there, and a bit longer on the way back due to the massive uphill. Be warned though, the wifi is sub par and very slow. Often times it cuts out for 15 minutes at a time. We didn't have much interaction with the hosts, but from what we did have, they are nice.
Mary, Osbaldo, and her husband are really sweet and they remind you to let them know if you need anything, have questions, etc. They try to provide you with what you need. The room was cozy and private, and the other guests were friendly too. I chose this place bc it says it's a 5min walk from DT, but it's more like 20 IF you don't get lost. The listing on the map is deceiving bc it's on the wrong location; it looks like it's near the DT/tourist area when it's actually near Av Buenos Aires and 4 de Mayo. Though, the price to stay here is cheap and it's up to someone whether they want to compensate a few extra dollars to get a taxi back to the location (it's steep going back walking!). There were some missing amenities as well, or rather, some of the amenities were misleading. Another reason I chose this place is bc it says it has a kitchen available, but it has no fridge. The fridge upstairs doesn't cool enough, so you can't store sensitive items like milk, chicken, etc. Overall, it's a comfortable and cheap place to stay. Post-Script: This message is two days later after I left. I left Mary a pubic review that I thought was nice considering that I didn't list all of the things that were misleading about this place. But she's trying to charge me 50$ after I left and I'm going to be honest about her place. 1) She claims to have a washer, but it's more like a giant sink for you to hand wash your clothes with cold water. 2) She claims to have cable TV, but there is no TV and hence no cable in the habitation. 3) It says it's a "laptop friendly working environment", but my "desk" was the size of an ironing board. I don't consider that a "laptop friendly working environment." 4) The kitchen doesn't have any napkins, and there were times when the bathroom didn't have toilet paper either. Through the AirBnB ratings, I was privately honest to Mary about the misleading amenities in her page and the next day I get a Resolution message from Mary asking me to pay her 50$ for false things. I phoned AirBnB and they told me to not get intimidated by Mary and simply decline to pay her. This is what she's charging me for: 1) 20$ for having my boyfriend stay an extra day. This is after I agreed with her husband I would stay an extra day (and he met my bf). 2) 15$ for covers (that my bed didn't have to begin with). 3) 15$ for smoking. (I don't smoke, it was another guest who smoked.) Based on this behavior, I would discourage people from staying with Mary, or Osbaldo, who also has an AirBnB account. Anyone can message me and I'll send a screenshot of my conversation with Mary through the resolution center.
